BUG: ESC key closes mixer in PC
Greetings devs,
I use the escape key to remove time selection in Arrange window. Unfortunately, if the mixer has focus, pressing ESC will close the mixer and there doesn't seem to be a way to disable this.
Originally reported here as a nitpick but was determined to only happen on PC: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=808674
This can be seen 2 ways;
-It shouldn't happen in the PC version, or
-It should happen in the Mac version.
Either way, it can be quite annoying and it would be great to either disable it or introduce an option to disable it. (I notice there isn't a separate Action set for the Mixer window)
All the best,

Hope you don't mind if I add to this.
Where I think the problem lies is that pressing Esc closes a docker if whatever is in that docker has focus. So if your mixer is in a docker and the mixer has focus, pressing Esc will close the docker. It is the same if you have any view docked in any docker including Mixer and from Big Clock through to VMK.
For me the major problem arises where you want to use Esc to clear time/loop selection (which after all is its default designated action).
It would be good to at least have the option to always have Esc pass through to the main window and clear time/loop.

Esc clears time selection or closes window on focus, that's by design as far as I know. So, if it doesn't happen on Mac then it's just an oversight or something related to this platform and how it handles such key in general (for consistency matters).

Of course you can interject, good sir!
But I have to say, I don't use the mixer docked, so I don't think applies directly in this case.

Fair enough if by design - what would helpful, then, would be an action to always pass through to main window - I think there is this action in the midi action set but not the main action set.
(I'm PC BTW don't know about mac.)

Oh, that's quite odd because here, if the mixer is attached to the main window then esc does not close it.

So your mixer is free-floating (not docked) and it's NOT closed by pressing ESC?
Really weird.

Sorry dax, I dont think I was clear enough about what I meant.
The mixer is in a docker but not attached to the main window (I have two screens).
If you see the picture of Reaper here http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php the mixer is in a docker like mine is. If you eg. adjusted a pan on the mixer and then tried to clear the time slection with ESC then your mixer would close.
However out of th ebox Reaper has the mixer attached as a part of the main window and in that scenario ESC does not close the mixer.
I would love to get a fix for this (if there is not one already) so I may do an FR when I get the time.

How could I forget about this annoying behaviour? Yes, that should definitely change!

Actually, I think we have to be careful to be specific with our request.
The ESC key actually closes (almost) any window in focus. This is actually very good, I have to say.
BUT, it would be great if we could disable it for the mixer alone.

The way I dealt with it was to map "Time selection: Remove time selection and loop point selection" to the F5 key. Now, if I want to remove the selection, I hit F5 instead of Esc. It's been so long since I did that, that I actually forgot that Esc was the default until reading this thread.
I realize it doesn't actually deal with the problem, but it's made it a non-issue for me.

Hey TLS,
Yes, that's a very good point, really. Of course, we are in agreement that it doesn't solve the problem, though I feel the problem probably wouldn't have existed in the first place had the default key assignment been something else.
Although, perhaps there is merit behind treating the mixer window differently since it has a higher 'priority' than most other windows.
I think in the meantime, I might just re-bind that action, too.
All the best,
Dax.
