is there an easy way to edit the Lo Fi text file so that the bit and sample rate knobs have a higher resolution?

a general behaviour in REAPER for that, is Ctrl+drag
the JS sliders also ehave like that.
if this plug has GUI, it's very simple to add that behave

yeah it has a GUI. problem is that when you automate those parameters, the resolution isn't high enough. Not like I'm desparate to add this behavior, but kinda just want to.

you can open the plugin in external editor
right click on the edit button
then inside it the first section is slider
for example :
slider9:0<0,0,1>somthing
the 1 is the increase value
you can check variuos values.
lower value will give higher resolution
EDIT: you can also post it here if you need, and i can look at it.

hey argitoth, its how the effect is designed internally.
i left the fractional parts out of the bit depth control (2^(b-1)/2^f - its not really that necessary in my opinion), while the sample rate is based on very simple s&h method. it will require interpolating between sample values, if you for example wish to change the sample rate to a number in between fs (44.1khz) and fs/2 (22.05khz).

quick update:
Code:
24.11.09
- added tubeharmonics
- fix for pdc in nonlinear
- added input gain for nonlinear
- small tweak in vumetergfxsum
_link
did some fixing + added a new tube amp effect.
please note that this is not a guitar amp/overdrive - it is much more similar to voxengo warmifier, which is a very subtle effect. if you wish to examine the effect's behaviour try it on a pure sinewave.
basically it creates odd and even harmonics which are dependent from controllable circuit instability amount and transients. instead of polynomials i'm using two waveshapers (one symmetrical and the other asymmetrical) in parallel, plus a couple of dc filters and a rc.
here are some plots:
the thd values are the lowest i could get on the graph, otherwise it raises the level quite high.
in general it is a very subtle effect but if you push it quite hard it can become very prominent. no oversampling is present, yet cpu usage is relatively high.
to notice the effect in its subtle settings try listening to the bass notes and the top end - cymbals.
here is demo song (dry/wet): Tatsuya Takahashi - With The Force Of Nature
_mp3
cheers

Oh my... another gem from LiteOn, I'll use it in my next mix for sure and write here some impressions Thanks again for all these high quality tools LiteOn!
EDIT: I can't see the new input gain for nonlinear, it has the same controls: Saturation amount, Fluctuation amount, Noise Floor and Output.

did a tube pre-amplifier version of the last fx yesterday, with similar behaviour to this fx as a reference (also in the lines of a triode, more or less...):

-> "tubeharmonics_amp"

You've done it again. What's so fantastic about your effects is
(a) They're not pretentious nonsense.
(b) They sound blinkin' marvelous.
Where else do you get that!
I'm quite happy using them in place of uad fx of a similiar nature. To my ears, your plugs sound way less grainy than uad's offerings particularly when you turn the interfaces on the uad off.......
Cooooool stuff. (Can you do pentode tubes? I'd sure love to hear what that's like!)
Many, many thanks for your work here.

Forgive me for my ignorance and for bumping a rather old thread. I can't seem to get certain of these plugins working under Reaper v3.75, specifically: farmodulator, lo-fi, phasemetergfx, prngplot, stereotilt, tubeharmonics, and tubeharmonics_amp. They weren't included in the Reaper install, so I downloaded them from the thread and copied them into the REAPER\InstallData\Effects\Liteon folder, then re-scanned my plugins in Reaper, but they didn't appear (all of the other Liteon plugins bundled with the Reaper install are present). Tried clearing the plugin cache and re-scanning, restarting Reaper, the computer, etc. Does anyone have an idea? Is there some reason those plugins weren't bundled? OS is Windows XP Pro, by the way.

I think "REAPER\InstallData\Effects\Liteon" is not the correct folder. Please open REAPER and go to Options and click on "Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder", this will open a new window, use the "Effects\Liteon" folder you see there.

Thanks for your help. To elaborate, I had copied the missing plugins to "Program Files\REAPER\InstallData\Effects\Liteon" before, which seemed "logical" as all the other Liteon plugins seemed to be located there (as well as the other JS plugins in "InstallData\Effects").
As you said, that wasn't the right directory. I moved the missing plugins to "%appdata%\REAPER\Effects\Liteon" and Reaper recognized them right away. It appears that Reaper stores the same plugin files in "Program Files...\Effects" as it does in "%appdata%...\Effects", but reads plugin data solely from the latter. Thanks again.

Liteon, the sonic_enhancer you just added is slightly different to that posted in the original thread (which has become an essential tool for me ). Could you explain what changed? Also, could you explain the purpose of the noise floor control?
Thanks for the updates.

@ixix:
i think the difference was that there is a lp filter around 20kHz. it's there simply for limiting the bandwidth. not exactly correct, i must admit though...
the noise floor option simply adds noise at around -96dBFS, aka floor reduction, which usually happens in hardware gear (in this case the NJM2153 chip).

Sorry if I'm being dim but why would you want to add noise? Does it change/improve the way that the rest of the plugin functions?

noise present in electronic circuits is usually undesired (an imperfection) and for plugins we can just add it as an option to "pretend" for a more accurate model. the noise is usually caused by various physical factors, which color the spectrum quite differently depending on the state of the system. modeling of the noise response itself would be more expensive, so we trade it off with a version with no dynamic state and usually no, to simple linear filtering.
the beneficial properties of circuit noise, and noise in general are questionable and not really understood very well (and a topic of good amount of talks). at some point i've read a couple of papers that suggest that it might amend cognitive functions of the brain, but also may worsen such, depending on the individual.
i personally don't mind or even slightly prefer noisier recordings.

Help with Waveshapermulti
I am looking for some help with the Waveshapermulti plugin.
I have some vocal tracks that are harsh in the 1.5k to 2.5k region. I have tried lots of different ways to reduce the harshness but none of the methods has been very effective.
So decided to try the Waveshapermulti plugin and use the muffle parameter to smooth the peaks in this region. What I did was to create a send that cuts all frequencies below 1khz and all frequencies above 3khz. Basically a bandpass for this region. Then I use that as the sidechain input to the Waveshapermulti plugin on the vocal bus. The more 2khz that is in the vocal the more the muffle parameter is applied.
This actually makes a really nice difference in smoothing this region. To help things a bit more I used a multiband delay to add just a bit of delay to the same region and the vocals are sounding much better.
My question is if there is a way to use Waveshapermulti and only have the effect applied to the band/region I have selected? The way I've been applying it it affects the entire spectrum even though it only kicks in when there is lots of 2k. It would be perfect if I could apply the effect to just the 1.5k to 2.5 k region the way a multiband compressor works. Is there a multiband version of this plugin?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Jones

You could try the frequency splitter JS plugins.
Make a track with 6 channels for the 3-band splitter (3bandsplitter). Insert your waveshaper and process stuff on tracka channels 3-4 with it by assigning it the correct input pins(do that in the FX window by clicking on the little box titled "2in2out" on the top righ) and have it output that to 3-4 as well. Then use the JS plugin 3bandjoiner to recombine it all.

Wow Thank you.
Wow. This works really well. Thank you for the tip.
One more question - what do the frequency sliders on the splitter control? are these the crossover frequencies of the three bands?
Thanks,
Jones

I have just discovered the sonic_enhancer and I think I am already using it too much... Thank you for the amazing work! Just a couple of questions.
First, why aren't all the plugins included in the Reaper installer? sonic_enhancer for one is not.
Second, what exactly is the CV parameter in sonic_enhancer? I see that acts as some sort of sensitivity for the metering in the 2 square boxes in the graphics area of the plugin, but I can't hear any audible difference... is it me? :/

I don't know how official these are, but there are some newer versions than the ones included in the default reaper install, here:
https://github.com/asb2m10/jsusfx/tr...scripts/liteon
Also a few new effects there.
These don't look like drop-in replacements for the reaper included versions however, since these have a .jsfx extension (and the included ones have no extension).

Hi Liteon!
Looking for a way to improve your de-esser included in Reaper, I tried to edit the code. Even though I don't understand the filter and level detection algorithms, I started by changing some numbers in the variables to see what would happen.
The only thing I could do was change the way of processing on the mono part.
I always use the Delta option to listen to the threshold.
In the de-esser I think there are some small problems.
When activating the Delta option, even if the signal is not compressed, there is no silence.
The reason for this is the addition of the low pass filter and the high pass filter, which introduces phase issues.
What I tried to do was this:
Calculate the difference of the original signal, and the difference between the clean highpass filter and the compressed highpass filter, which gave the result you expected, using highpass mode.
However, by turning off the Delta option, I feel that the high frequency signal is not filtered out much. I don't know if it's the filter design or something else.
In short, I think you could implement a kind of high shelving filter that changes with the amount of compression, (maybe a -18 or -24 dB/octave filter).
Thank you for reading.
