Drag and drop support for saving track templates
Basically this would mean you could grab a track or multiple tracks from your project and drag them somewhere to some directory (like the desktop for instance), and the track(s) would save as a track template in the directory where you dropped it and prompt for a name. (It would probably have to prompt for whether or not to save items and envelopes as well unless a default behavior was set up, which I would prefer setting up a default behavior)
The best example for this is what you can do with Ableton Live. You can simply drag a track and drop it in the browser and it saves the track and asks for the name.
This is basically to easily utilize track templates as track storage devices instead of just track templates. It would work very nicely with the media explorer as well.

Does it have to be drag and drop always, why not hotkeys? Also, are external file browsers allowed, why only limiting to Reaper internal browsers? Then probably it should be possible to do. But I do not know all Reaper features.

I'd love to see this as part of an FL style intergrated browser with everything you need. Files, projects, fx and presets, track templates, and so on.

Well, you can drag them in from the Media Explorer, so why not drag them out to the Explorer too, popping up the Save dialogue window?
The same would be good for Project Templates too.

Yes, this sounds good.
As a workaround, until then, you could get the project-directory via a hotkey, which would then auto-save in this dir, under a subdir "track-templates" the current track selection. All automated via one AutoHotkey-hotkey.
Later you can drag in these templates or files back into your project.
