DAW Hardware Upgrade

I'm thinking about doing a build specifically to help with my DAW performance (similar to http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=126751)

Currently I'm running:
ASUS M2N-E
4GB DDR2 (Mushkin HP2-5300 + Corsair VS1GB667D2)
AMD Athlon II X4 640
Chaintech AV-710 PCI Sound Card (running out to a Gilmore Headphone Amp)

I'm looking to first upgrade the RAM (so I have to upgrade the MB) and try that with the existing processor:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0
8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

Then maybe down the road if I find the performance improvement isn't as desired, I'd upgrade the processor:
AMD FX-8350

Any thoughts about whether this will work for me?
