Default Polarity issue with ReaInsert (SOLVED)

I use ReaInsert to include outboard gear and then record the processed signal on a new track creating a send to it from the original track. I figured out the latency involved and set ReaInsert to compensate for it. The recorded track lines up perfectly with the original track but has a reversed polarity!

I double checked my cables. The issue occurs in Reaper 4.77 64/32 as well as in 5pre15x64.

Knowing about the issue, I can easily flip polarity in the send as a workaround.

With ReaInsert bypassed, polarity of the recorded track is correct.

I'm not a ReaInsert user, but my first guess would be that it's your outboard gear... what are you running through and have you confirmed polarity on all of it?

to minimize errors during testing, I took a simple patch cable and connected the hardware out directly back to the input for ReaInsert on my patchbay. I also tried different cables to be sure and verified the patchbay itself.

Did you try just looping directly from the interface output to the interface input -- i.e. no patchbay involved? Anything in the interface software control panel that could be doing it?

And just curious how you verified the interface-to-patchbay connections? Continuity checks with a DMM?

:-)

you'll never guess what message popped up on my screen an instant ago:

FYI, I have an Antelope Orion32 USB interface :-)

We'll see what happens after updating the machine ...

Nonetheless, many thanks for you effort, clepsydrae!

I feel ashamed to have dared to blame Reaper. Please forgive me, Cockos!

test passed! Round-trip test signal virtually nulls. Issue resolved. ReaInsert works as expected. Thanks Antelope :-)
