Default Trick to import MTS video files in Reaper

Yes!, it's possible to open MTS video files in Reaper and it's very easy, just rename the extension of the video file ".mts" as ".mkv", it really works but...... I don´t know why it only works for x86 version!

It works with 64bit as well - please could some developer get this fixed or at least cam Nicholas write this down in his guide?

This doesn't seem to be working for me.
Trying to import MTS files from a Sony camera.
Tried changing the extension to mkv, avi and mp4 with no luck.

So try to rewrap (without transcoding) it into different format..
- Get FFMPEG binary
http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/
- run following command
ffmpeg -i your-input-file.mts -map 0 -c copy output.mkv

Great, that works. Thank you!
I made a .bat file with the following:
for %%a in ("*.*") do ffmpeg -i "%%a" -map 0 -c copy "%%a.mkv"

I do wish Reaper would just allow MTS files to be imported, though.

I know this is an old thread, but could maybe you, or perhaps someone else you explain to me exactly what this is doing and how it works? I would very much like to be able to do the same thing for my camcorder files, but I'm not exactly sure where to put this batch file, or which settings would be pertinent to me, or how to get it to work with a specific file.

I did download ffmpeg for windows as mentioned above.

Just transcoded it to an edit format unless you are just watching it.

Transcoding takes longer though I think. this works for me anyway, I would just prefer to be able to do it in windows, or at least write the filenames and all that in windows.

Transcoding is done for reasons, not just file format compatibility, if you are editing use an edit format, if you ever do anything serious, this one tip will keep you in good stead.

Doesn't work for me in either x86 or x64.

Odd, as I could swear that it used to.

I'm dropping problematic videos into "Video Container Changer" (Windows only, https://www.videohelp.com/software/V...tainer-Changer). No recompression, just very quick transcoding.

btw, welcome to the forums, Nikibugsound!

Thx a lot! Since the ffmpeg link above is dead, this helped me a lot!
