Default Allowing items to move left or right in order to accommodate time stretched items.

When time stretching an item, subsequent items do not currently move to accommodate the time stretch. This means that if you speed up an item, you can end up with a gap between that item and the next item, or if you slow the item down you can end up with the time stretched item mixing into the next item. I can see why this might be desirable, but in other cases this is far from useful. This then involves a lot of time consuming steps to remedy the situation, such as cutting other items or item after the item you want to change, then making the time stretch, then pasting the item in the place where you want it to go. This is very dissimilar to other DAWs.

My proposal is that either there is an option in media item properties, item settings or somewhere in preferences, or that Ripple mode status affects the way time stretched items interact with subsequent items.

Thanks.

Ripple dediting from edges is a popular feature request.

Because rhere is no native integration yet, I made a couple fo scripts for that. They extend item edges to edit cursor, and mover later items accordingly.
I also made a script to adjust take under mouse playrate so that it extends to edit cursor.

I can merge the two concepts and make it able to riple edit while changing playrate if you really need it ?

Hi, this might be very useful, thanks. I didn’t mention in my previous post, but I am a blind Reaper user, using the keyboard exclusively to interact with Reaper. Any command that shows in the actions list is therefore accessible to me. I don’t know how your script works, but if the option shows up in one of the menus of actions list, and/or has a hotkey assigned to it, then this would be great.

Thanks.

In case you are interested, as a scripter, there is an open source project to help make Reaper more accessible through a script and keymap called Osara, found here.

Hi david,

You have to know that a script get imported into REAPER via the action list, so you can trigger any script from it once you have import it.

But I'm confuse because these scripts works with mouse because they sample "item under mouse".
Scripts that use mouse of course may not do anything if run from the action the list, they have to have a keyboard shortcut to make them run... and the cursor have to be over the good thing.

thanks for the link on the Osara project it is a good initiative.
Do you find REAPER easy to use with it ?

Hi, I can select an item with the keyboard with control left or right arrow. Perhaps this also focuses the mouse on that item, in which case this may work. If not, then perhaps there would be an easy way to have the mouse move to it. I am happy to test the script and let you know. If it works then I would also happily let others on the Reaper Accessibility mailing list know. There is a group of us who are blind who communicate on the mailing list in order to address and improve accessibility issues with Reaper.

Currently, I am very new to reaper. I am probably one of the least experienced Reaper users on the blind Reaper mailing list. So far I have been very impressed by how Osara has helped with Reaper access, and also how customisable Reaper is. I am also impressed that recently reaper released their latest version which included an accessibility fix.

There is information on the Osara site should you ever wish to get involved with the project.

Thanks for your help.
