Default Reaper doesnt handle special characters well (FIXED)

If using source file names with typical northern European charachters like ÄÖÜ etc, the project clean up cannot remove those files, and if selecting several files for removal and at least one source file has one of those charachters none of the files will get deleted.

Same thing with SWS "delete selected takes and source files", I suspect they are related...

Reproduced. Tested file name with unicode character = "Cymbal Ride render 001∕161.wav".

REAPER 5.04 x64 (Win8.1).

"Cymbal Ride render 002ä.wav" doesn't give problems here.

FIXED (5.05)

One thing I've learned is not to try and get all fancy with non-English punctuation and characters in file names. I haven't had any issues with Reaper with that but I've had Windows users tell me they were unable to play a mix (standard wav or flac file) when there were 'special' characters in the file name. (Came up with some Spanish speaking clients a while back.)

I never had a problem with this in Windows as an OS. But yea some characters can be a little shady.
However the actual letters (ÅÄÖÜ etc) should be made to not cause any problems in Reaper I think. Otherwise you'll end up spending time renaming all these files you get from people to mix/master etc.

Devs please?

ä, ö, ü und ß gehören abgeschafft. machen nur ärger.

so this is not a problem of Reaper. its a problem of ASCII standard and/or UTF-8. for most of ASCII.

a program - such as Reaper - cant be blamed for not being able to reproduce every strange character in every thinkable language. with strange I mean "is not included in ASCII".) what about turkish, danish, norwegian, spanish, portugese? to name a few. they all have characters that lead to weird reactions inside some programs. the programs cant implement them all.

I never ever tried to use characters outside of ASCII for anything on a computer. and I did right, cause there never were any problems.

thats how I see it and the ASCII standard sees it. whats the problem to avoid those characters? ü = ae, ü = ue, ö = oe and ß = ss. (ich erspare mir die diskussion um die angebliche verarmung der deutschen schriftsprache. da sind die rapper und die kultusminister dran schuld. )

hey, fellow Germans, get over it! its only 4 characters.

I disagree, if Windows can handle it just fine, then Reaper should be able too. Its just file names Im talking about here, file names that are perfectly fine in Windows. And its not like the devs havent tried to get it compatible with other languages with the language packs etc...which is good of course.

Dstruct:
Ok, what are you testing, same as I did? I got the same problem here with 5.04.

REAPER's project clean up feature. Don't have SWS installed.
