Default Elastic Audio Plugin

Is there something in Reaper similar to the Elastic Audio Plugin in Protools? I'm not too familiar with all this but I have a friend who uses protools that has this. I have different segments in some songs recorded in 8th notes that I need to bump into beat...

Something like Elastic Audio? Not yet, unfortunately... The functionality is there (Elastique time stretch algorithms) but it's a bit unhandy to use because you can only stretch whole items, not parts of them.

I have no idea if this could be done by third party devs via the current API since Justin told me that it's not on his to-do-list...

I'm wanting to do something similar to what's being done in this video.

this cannot be done automatically in Reaper as of yet. you can however do it manually.

select the item you want to fix (you'll probably want to zoom in), hit the Tab button and this will jump to each transient in the item. when you jump to a transient, hit the S key and this will slice your item. however the Tab button will most likely miss a few transients, so you will have to find those manually. Reaper currently has a fixed threshold for detecting transients. unless i'm missing something?

once you've done that, be sure you have snap enabled, and start aligning your pieces to the grid. then you can stretch out each piece so it snaps to the next grid line by holding down Alt and dragging the item. if you get pops in the audio, it's because Reaper doesn't snap to zero-crossing when slicing audio. sometimes you can fix this by selecting all the items, go to item properties, and add a very small fade to the beginning and end of the items.

hopefully that makes sense.

Okay, do I stretch it out by click and holding the edge of an item and draggin it to the next, because sometimes when I do this it creates a bubbly or warpy sound...

to stretch an item, hold down Alt and drag out the edge.

how good it sounds will depend on the audio source, and the Elatique settings. the default quality setting for Elastique realtime preview is low. you probably want to render the item using the best quality resample mode to avoid the warping sound.

jesus christ i can't believe i didn't find this sooner. i have been manually cutting, quantizing and stretching for far too long. thanks for pointing that out.

brings a fresh perspective to RTFM.

okay thanks for all this! But 1 more question, when I record a guitar part, 1/8 notes, it is all 1 item with no pauses in between, so when I select auto-split items, it doesnt do anything. Is there something else I can do, or am I doing this wrong?

haha I know it. I always try. Im too much of a perfectionist though... may be a bad thing. But there still seems like there is some way I can break these passages down...

Anyone got any ideas as to how I can do this? Maybe recording a dry signal could help some?

When it comes to editing distorted guitars, it's essential to record a dry D.I. signal too. It's almost impossible to spot attacks/transients in a distorted guitar clip.

Okay so the best thing I can do is record a dry input also, and if something is off, move it into place. So what do I do about the small gap thats left when I move the note? Do I time stretch it into place or what???
