Default Enlarge Selected Track

Tallisman asked me to capture and post this...

http://theaudiocave.com/enlarge.html

I have the window pretty small here to keep the video small but there are obvious advantages when using the entire screen.

Logic has that too (Autozoom), one thing I really liked about it.

+1 from me

and also "hide all but selected tracks" command would be really useful to edit a track comparing to other one.

Maybe on rollover? Or it could be set to either rollover, selected, or both?

Unfortunately, I only get an empty page with a black frame telling me "No Video" when I follow Lawrence's link (FF 2 on 64-Studio/Linux). But if it's anything remotely like Cubase SX's feature, I'd def. like to get something similar in REAPER as well.

Cheers
Raphael

Can someone describe the feature? With a preference enabled, selected tracks are always expanded to height A and not-selected tracks are shrunk to height B? Or ... ?

selected tracks should expand to a user defined height and unselected tracks shouldn't change height imo.

personally for me it even would be enough if i could get the full track control panel when selecting a track which is in minimum height: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=13346 (option to "always show full track control panel on selected tracks")

Meaning, suppose you start with all tracks at a small height, start selecting tracks and they expand, select new tracks and the old ones stay expanded too? So every track you touch or have ever touched is expanded to some height, and only shrinks down again if you decrease height of all tracks at once (or explicitly shrink a particular track, without selecting it)?

This seems like the sort of "application thinks it knows what you want" behavior that could be frustrating ... am I misunderstanding?

Perhaps a feature whereby the selected track (or tracks) expands to a user defined height when it is less than that height, otherwise it will shrink to it's original height when de-selected (again, only if it is less than the user defined height).

Does that sound reasonable?

no, the track (which become unselected when selecting new tracks) should go back to the previous height like they were before.

Does this have to be automatic - wouldn't a toggle action do the trick? Let's think - you'd need one action to define the size at the outset - "set track enlarge size as current track", then another action "toggle track enlarge for selected track(s)." I would have thought enlarging every time you selected a track would become a bit boggly.

Or have the track enlarge only happen if you selected the track right on the track number, or something like that.

Hey, Raphael.

Are you using Firefox by any chance?

That's exactly what I got and had to use IE instead in order to view it.

This is how I see it working: when you select a track it becomes bigger - taller in the tcp making its item auto zoom vertically...

if you adjust the size of the selected track then that 'adjusted size' becomes the enlargement factor. So if I drag the selected track such that it is 20% taller than an unselected track, then 20% would be the amount any selected track(s) is enlarged. Thus, if I mouse wheel vertical zoom all track to a certain size (say showing 3 rows in the tcp), selected track(s) would be 20% bigger. When a track is unselected, its size shrinks back to the current zoom level.

also, of course of course I should be able to disable/enable the enlarge track with a key command.

Should this apply to track inside a minimized folder?
Yes, I think so, but only until we get the next level of folder minimize that completely hides the child tracks, then no

greetings

It works in FF3 for me (just checked it again), but it opens in Windows Media player, which may explain the problem in Linux.
