Default nanoKontrol for Reaper (XP & OS X)

This little controller works very good in Reaper.
I make this keymap for 39 Tracks that can be controlled with the 4 Scenes of the Korg nanoKontrol. (Volume, Pan, Solo, Mute).

It works on XP and OS X.

In Reaper Preferences the nanoKONTROL SLIDER/KNOB must be set to Enabled+Control or Control Only.

nano_reaper.nktrl_set must be load into the nanoKontrol with the Korg Kontrol Editor. Load it and go to Communication/Write Scene Set.

nano1.ReaperKeyMap you can import in Reaper/Actions.

Scene 1 - Track 1 to 9,
Track 10 must exist, but empty,

Scene 2 - Track 11 to 19,
Track 20 must exist, but empty,

Scene 3 - Track 21 to 29,
Track 30 must exist, but empty,

Scene 4 - Track 31 to 39

Transport works also.
Only the cycle button does not work in Reaper.

Default cycle button

I think you just need to set the button to toggle instead of momentary.

Thats what I did. Works great.

I see that Korg have just announced (at NAMM) the Black versions of the nano series.

Quick Q: are the nanoKontrol rotaries knobs endless?

Also, what can I do with the loop button. I'd like to get it set so that I can record a loop and then hit that and have it loop that section over and over. Any ideas?

I need some help setting up my Nanokontrol for Reaper. I just don't know what to do with nano1.ReaperKeyMap. When I import it in actions nothing happens, I can't control anything. I loaded nano_reaper.nktrl_set into the Nanokontrol, so that can't be the problem.

Thanks in advance!

After loading nano_reaper.nktrl_set in Korg Kontrol Editor you must do "Write Scene Set" Have you done this?

In Reaper Preferences / Midi Devices you must set Slider/Knob to Enabled+Control.

Default struggling

I have dl`d your zip twice & extracted it.

I get a file header corrupt error every time I try to load the scene into korg editor.

I am about to re-d/l the editor in the vain hope it is that.
FWIW the load window doesnt "see" the file nano_reaper.set etc... but when I enter "n" manually, it finds all the files in that folder, including the reaper keys one...
Still says header is corrupt though.

I would really appreciate some help here guys.

Great Help!

Now, is there a way to lose the Empty Tracks so that everything is straight down from 1-36?

The separations are nice if I'm working with Jazz/Marching/Symphonic Band stuff but sometimes it might be useful to go straight down the board, especially when bringing stuff over from Finale.

Thanks!

First of all, thanks for that.

I have a couple of questions though, to the original author and to the people who got the Cycle button to work;

1) The cycle button on the nano.zip is set to send the MMC Play command, and so is the Play button. To get cycle to work, what have you done?

2) The Stop button is set to send MMC Stop; as there's no pause button on the nanoKontrol, I'd quite like to use that as a toggle play/pause button. Is that possible using the MMC commands (I'm assuming MediaKbdStop etc are MMC command in Reaper, but I can't see how to set new ones of those. If I select the item in the action editor and press teh "Add" button, pressing that key on the nanoKontrol just runs the action, it doesn't seem to be seen by the action editor). Do I need to just define them as more MIDI CC events instead?

3) The track 9 buttons are set to momentary rather than toggle. Is that deliberate.

Thanks for any help. This does look like it would save me some time, and I can understand why you use 1-9, 10-19 etc

Hey guys,
I have searched through the NanoKontrol threads and it is not clear to me if I can do the following:

I want to have my MIDI keyboard plugged in to record. It just sends the MIDI notes and the pitch wheel and has no other wheels or gizmos to send additional CCs.

I want to have the Nano send some MIDI ccs on the faders. (Breath, Expression, whatever..)

Is it possible to have both of these send information into the same MIDI track simultaneously?

The keyboard is coming in through my sound card MIDI port and I guess the Nano would come in over the USB.

Then, if needed, I would like to go back and record additional CC info onto that same track later while leaving all the existing notes and CCs intact.

Doable?

I've made a different preset based on axel_ef's presets.

I have only mapped track 1-9 but the main changes are:

1. Volume and Pan uses 'Soft Takeover' so it's easier to synch the nanokontrol faders/knobs to Reaper's settings.
2. Solo and Mute are mapped using the 'set mute/solo' instead of 'toggle mute/solo' - this way, the lights on the nanokontrol synchs with Reaper after the first button-press.
3. Reapet is not mapped to MMC Loop but a Midi CC and is also mapped into Reaper so you can toggle transport repeat - this light does not synchronize though - Reaper has no 'set repeat', sadly.

First of all, thanks to Axel_ef for his keymap.

I've created some custom actions with keyboard shortcuts to display only the 9 tracks for each scene, in otherwords,:-

Alt + 1 = show tracks 1 - 9 only
Alt + 2 = show tracks 11 - 19, and so on.
Alt + 0 = resets to show all tracks except 10, 20 & 30
It helps me to know where I am, but I had a thought that I might be able to asign these actions to the scene button on the Nanokontrol, so that when I changed scenes it would run the custom actions for me.

Any one know if that's possible and how to do it if it is?

Since version 3.21 of reaper if you map a Midi CC to toggle transport repeat the lights synchronize!

Thanks for the keymap, just tested the nano kontrol on this machine and it works a treat, will have to install it on the music machine. It's a shame that the loop function doesn't work.

I'm sorry, I must be a little slow. Can't get this to work.

How do I import the nano1.ReaperKeyMap ?
Do I have to add a MIDI controller in the preferences?

You might have found this by now. It is very easy. You open the actions like you've done, "show actions list".
Down in the left corner there is an "Import" button. Click it, locate Axel's nano1.ReaperKeymap-file, choose it - and that is it. If you followed the other steps - now it is working^^.

Hi.
I've just got a nanokontrol and was thrilled to find this thread.
But it's not working for me.

I've installed the Korg USB Midi Driver and software
I've installed the scene set file
I've clicked "write scene set"
I've got Reaper/Pref/Midi enabled (in and out)
I've imported into Reaper's action list

But nothing works.
I've added a VST track to a new project to test it out but the nano does nothing other than create a little red indicator that Reaper is receiving some sort of midi signal but neither transport no faders do anything more than this.

What have I done wrong??
Cheers.

FYI I'm on XP SP3 and I have a midisport 2x2 also installed, which is working fine.

UPDATE to the above

Not that I have much more to say, I've tried everything again with the same result. NanoKontrol is showing the Reaper data has been loaded in... and Reaper is getting some sort of midi signal... so it seems to me it's the actions that are not importing into Reaper for some reason but I have clicked import and selected the keymap.
I'm just at a complete loss am thinking of sending it back at the moment and splashing out on a faderport or alphatrack instead but that's a shame as the Nano WOULD rock if I could get it to work

Please help

Have you set it in Reaper to "Enable Input for Control Messages" (Control only) ?

Aha! Brilliant, thank you.
I'd got "input" not "control" enabled! Obvious now I know.
Thank you so much

Incidentally, should the midi output be enabled? I presume it does't really matter as it's not bi-directional?

Thanks again.

Thanks Axel!!

It seems my drivers weren't installed correctly. Nano came up as a generic device. I followed this tutorial for loading the drivers properly, and then the Nano showed up by name in Reaper. Hopefully with your Keyset, I can get the sliders and pan knobs to work.

For those of you who need the tutorial, go here:

http://www.untidymusic.com/wordpress...kontrol-sonar/

Thanks again Axel. You're time and consideration is one of the reasons why this forum is top notch.

BTW, followed your instructions to a T. If I don't set device for "enable and control" instead of the control only, my tracks don't read the nano device. I'm getting a flashing green light on the track, so I assume Reaper is reading the nanokontrol, but the volume slider and pan doesn't move or change.

Any idea what else I should be doing to get this thing to work?

Default FF/REW snap to bars???

Hey Axel...

Just DL'ed and installed... THANK you.

I notice that when using the FF / REW buttons, they seem to move forward a random amount every time. Any idea if I can get them to snap to bar starts?

Thanks again and again.
