Default track color

On this screen from the Reaper.fm 'screenshots' :

http://www.cockos.com/reaper/screens..._screen_2s.jpg

You can see that the tracks color changes the WHOLE TRACK color, while when you do it it Reaper, only the tracks names background color and waveforms change. WHY? I personally would really like the whole track panel to change color. How do I do this?

To change the whole track control panels and Mixer strips:
Preferences -> Appearance >> Tint track panel backgrounds

To change item backgrounds:
Preferences -> Appearance -> Media >> "Tint Backgrounds to custom track colors" and "Tint Backgrounds to custom item colors"

Play around with these settings (and those that are in the same section of the prefs) until you find a combination you like

What if those options aren't clickable? Reaper tells me that "color themes may override this preference". What are the color themes and where can I change that?

If you use a light color theme to start with you can tint them to almost any color you desire.

Hi there. What if "Tint track panel backgrounds" is grayed out? I see it in preferences but Reaper will not let me click it.

Also, this is not really a big deal, but it's still really annoying me. For some reason, when I record on just this one track, the items are changing colors randomly between each take. How do I get them to be the same color as the track? It's only happening on one out of my currently 16 tracks...I do use the colors to navigate my way around my project, and it is somewhat annoying that the items for this track are just random colors...

Ah...thought I'd come back and edit this rather than delete...just in case someone else is having the same issue. I still don't know the answer to my first question, but as far as the item colors is concerned, I figured it out: Reaper>>Preferences>>Appearance>>Peaks/Waveforms...Uncheck "Automatically color any recording pass that adds new takes to existing media items"

Once I unchecked that everything was recording the same color. Still need help with the first question though...

Thanks!

Because you are using a modern theme that uses the new image-based custom colouring method. Those preferences have no function on such a theme, but in return you get selectively coloured areas as chosen by them theme maker.

If you use an older theme, such as the V3 default shown in your screenshot, those preferences will be available and stuff will take colour just as it used to.

If you want to keep using a modern theme but have it show more custom colour, a simple bit of image editing is required on a few background images. You may not need to do this yourself; altered images for a number of themes have been posted on this forum if you look around.
