Default Snap in the midi editor can get messy!!

Hay all

well after having snap troubles in the sequencer i found out that un-checking "snap media items to nearby media items up to:" made snap act as expected (snap only to the grid or only snap relative to the grid, depending on weather relative snap is enabled)

the midi editor on the other hand is not so customizable

if i have a load of recorded midi with different offsets then it try's to snap to each offset (looking again i think its snapping note ends & note starts & the relative offset also)

here is a screen cast
http://www.screencast.com/users/djsu...0-820ce88467d8

is there already a FR to make midi snap customizable like the sequencers snap? or should i make a new FR in the tracker?

if i have snap enabled i want it to snap note on to the grid line only (unless i have relative snap enabled, then i want it to snap note on only by the grid line)

of course many users will want to also keep the current method also (is it supposed to be a smart snap?)

anyhoo, what are others users thoughts on this?

Have you tried rightclicking on the snap button, it brings up the snap settings

Options so snap behaves how you would like it to when you need it to in the midi editor? Great idea!

Thanks Subz - Voted.

Voted. To be honest I can't believe its like this at the moment but then I guess it's part of reapers ideaology to have no limitations (on snap positions) but in this case it is making editing very difficult.

Also, when I draw midi controller notes in the bottom lane the spacing of the notes almost seems random and if this data (volocity/pitchbend) followed a snap menu in the midi editor Im sure that would all be sorted, no?

some good news

i found in the options list in the midi editor "snap note ends to grid when snapping is enabled"

if you select this then note offs (note ends) do not snap to grid, (seems like it should snap when that option is enabled?

anywho, now it only snaps to not on to grid & note on to relative position so its not as bad as i thought,

but still my FR stands as it would be better to have relative as a exclusive option, lets you move stuff about without having to zoom in to much
