Auto-coloring for tracks.
Hi,
I usually ask for something like a step sequencer, but today I will go for something a lot easier.
Just give us the auto-coloring for the tracks, I mean I record a rhythm guitar, it usually get a gray (or whatever that is) color, then I record a second guitar it also gets a gray color and so on.
My suggestion is that reaper itself could give it a different color for each different tracks.
This would save a lot of time for those who like to have different colors in their tracks, making easier to identifies each track and also helps keeping your head fresh, plus it gives a better first impression to first time users. This is done nicely in EnergyXt, Studio One, Live and a few others DAWs, it could be a good yet easy feature IMO.
For those that dont like, just include a option to disable such behavior, and those who still prefer their own color would probably give the same work (or could disable it too).
Thanks in advance.

right click on the track in the TCP and select set track to random or custom colour. Does that help?

SWS extensions have auto-coloring now. You can define conditions under which certain tracks can be colored. For example, if a track has "gtr" in its name, it can be, say, red, etc. Try it!

I think he means just automatically setting each track to a random color, not associated colors. That way no two adjacent tracks are the same color and everything is easily visually separated.
(Like Pro Tools haha...)

Hmm interesting... Can I set it up to work for every single track regardless of name?
Edit: Holy smokes it works, and if you set it to "custom" it puts them in the custom ordered colors... This rules so so so so so hard.

Of course! You just right click in the "Filter" column and choose (any) as condition. It's even cooler to have "Gradient" as color, the gradient will adjust as you add more tracks!
Tim is a god.

Gradient is pretty slick!
I can't figure out how to actually manually pick colors on OSX though... If I quadruple click the color field I get a text entry box, but I can only get black to work as a color!

Do you see the gray box next to the Remove button? That's your color picker, click it (Tim could mark it better, yeah. I'll let him know that. But this is not all from him, he has BIG PLANS for auto-everything later on!!)
And the "code" is RGB in hexadecimals. 0xRRGGBB, RR/GG/BB being 00-FF (0-255).
BTW cool voice
P.S.: The options I got is via right-clicking on Windows. Do the analogous thing on OSX and you should get the same contexts as me. I hope!

I still dont know how to use it, anyway that should be default on the Reaper itself and not a option in its extensions.
I will see that when I know better about reaper.

Not sure if you figured it out yet but make sure you install the SWS Extensions, then go View> SWS Auto Color, hit "Add" and set the filter to "any", then right click the color column and choose "Random" (or "Custom" if you have a custom set of random colors you want to use).
Then just check the "enable" box and hit "Apply" or "Force" (whichever shows up). Should be good to go from there. This auto color stuff is amazing.

Quick question for ED
Is there a way to have the TCP names not colored, and have just the items colored?
Thanks, Wyatt

Thanks I will try.
Still it should be default.

Via SWS autocoloring, no, it applies only to tracks.
Via my color toolbar, yes. You need to have DESELECTED ALL TRACKS, and selected only the items you wish to color, then you press the button on my toolbar.

This isn't true, I am using SWS auto color to color items only and not tint track panels. Just disable the track background and track panel tinting in Preferences>Appearance.

Yeah, except that.
But I can't separate from tinting track backgrounds, so... from my perspective, you can't do it yet :P
