Which would be the easiest way to stream audio directly from Reaper?
hey all,
Which would be the easiest way to stream audio directly from Reaper? (Over the Internet, that is.)
The reason I want to do this is I play in a band where the bandmembers live in different cities. Our singer is recording vocals in his home studio and I would like to be able to help him with the tracking.
Now controlling Reaper on his computer isn't so hard, I use UltraVNC for that, but which is the easiest way to make it possible for me to hear the output from Reaper?
I have a few ideas but they all seem too complicated and unlikley to actually work. so I thought I'd ask the friendly people here at the Reaper forum!
any help is much appreciated. regards,
- Jonas Eriksson

streams
Hi Jonas, i don´t think it is possible to stream out of reaper, but you can use flash player, or edit a text file for an mp3 file, then save as ....song.m3u.
best, you google for audiostreams, mp3 streams, check out my site haggmusic.com, there are some examples of streamimg files.
hope, this helps you a bit

If you want to try something, you can use this:
http://reaper.fm/files/reaper_shoutcast.dll
Put in your REAPER\plugins folder, then put lame_enc.dll (you'll have to find that yourself and make sure you have patent rights if your country requires it) in REAPER\. Then do file->save live output to disk, and select " shoutcast"... once you start that it'll let you choose a shoutcast server (for more information on that see www.shoutcast.com)

thanks Justin I'll try that! it'll be interesting to see if our (mine and the vocalists) ADSL connections will be able to squeeze all the necessary data through.
I've installed the shoutcast plug-in and it shows up in Reaper. will do some reading up on Shoutcast now and report back once we've tried it.

last night I tried setting up a shoutcast server and stream audio directly from Reaper (using reaper_shoutcast.dll) and...
it works! without a glitch, actually.
however, I've yet to try the remote tracking idea (using UltraVNC and reaper_shoutcast), though. probably won't be until next week but I'll be sure to let you know how it worked out.
regards,
- Jonas

I set it up yesterday afternoon in about an hour (had to learn a few things about the shoutcast server) after reading this thread. What a great way to let clients attend a mix session or preview a final product without physically coming to the mix room.
The next step would be to broadcast a combination of the audio and video streams. I don't think it can do that yet though.

Is the shoutcast plugin no longer supported? I tried following Justin's link to the .dll:
http://reaper.fm/files/reaper_shoutcast.dll
but only received a 404 page. I also searched the wiki and the PDF user guide but found no mention of shoutcast. Any help or alternative solution is much appreciated -
Thanks,
Brian

I know it's a little late... all you have to do is, 'right-click' the link then 'Save As'. Maybe this will help someone else.

The shoutcast dll is in fact still available. The landoleet site is however protected by a login and password. You can find them in the PreRelease forum.

If only this worked with the 64 bit version.... Is there more to it then just recompiling it as a 64 bit dll?
