Preferences/Editing behavior/Mouse modifiers, select "Media item", for default action set "Move item ignoring time selection."

Thanks Schwa, I thought the splitting at time selection was a bug, but apparently not.

Because it's cool, obvious and intuitive. If you click the item within the selection, you move just that section of the item. If you click the item outside the selection, you move the whole item. Simple, obvious and very useful.

I agree, this should not be set as default.

I think it should also be enable/disabled in the prefs/editing menu instead of the mouse modifiers.

I also think the default behaviour should be the one we already got used to.

There is a quite similar mode we already have in V3, with just the difference that the original stays where it was if you press ctrl while dragging anything in the time selection.

One thing still missing: "Command-Click selects winning lottery numbers."
