Lullaby(For Hannah)
I wasn't going to post this as it may be too sentimental for some but as it's all been done in Reaper I thought I may as well.If you are feeling stressed and the week as made your nerves raw I'm sure it will relax,

Paul, I loved this song.
Only us Brits would semi-apologise for being too sentimental wouldn't we?
I think what would greatly improve the song would be finding a really classy instrument to replace the synth strings --- in my modest opinion they just aren't up to the job -- as I say, this is a classy piece and deserves better.
Please don't take offence, this is just an honest reaction -- anyhow I think it is one great song --- well done Sheppo.

No offence taken.I deliberately kept away from,"Real" string sounds as I didn't want that sound because I used a little 808 synth kit sound and wanted a more synthetic sound to go with it.
It was actually a bit of a test for how low a volume I could sing at and maintain pitch as it's sung incredibly gently into my new Red 5 Audio RV6 condenser mic and I wanted to see just how much it could pick-up up at such low volumes and close mic singing.

This I totally agree with, a synth voice of some sort would work best -- real strings would not be as effective. Have you checked out Angelina from Big Tick?

I'll have a look but I have loads of different sounds available so it's ends up being a personal musical choice on things like this.I've got some excellent choirs but didn't want to clutter the mix with too much.
I could have used timpani but decided just on a low tom tom tuned down from my Drum program as I liked it's sound. If I conform too much to what might be expected it may lose any quirkiness.

Nice mellow tune Shep. Sung really well.
Something with the gtr tone doesn't feel right to me somehow. Maybe a touch bright? Maybe too much attack? Not that it's way off the mark, just a little.

Nice tune, shep.
Reminds me partly of Pink Floyd, The Wall. I dont know what it is, your voice or the lyrics ...

I love how eclectic your stuff is Shep. This sounds great.
I guess you're pretty pleased with how that new mic turned out eh?

Nice job Shepp. This tune has a very nice, relaxing mood around it. Time for a nappy-poo...

Good grief, this is a beautiful song. Very well constructed. I can picture this one playing in the background of a very moving and emotional moment of a major motion picture. Keep up the good work.
Blessings

Nice. Sounds like if it was a song from an 80's movie or something like that. But I think the vocals needs a bit of EQ to stand out more from the rest.

Yes I am Spike.I know it's not a Rode or even one of the much more expensive condenser mics but for the price it seems to handle everything I throw at it.
I miced up my old Antoria Jumbo for a test.

Strange. My Alessis M1 Active Monitors are very good at none colouration of sound and the vocals sit well on them and travel well if I walk away from the system.

Funny, I have Alessis M1 Active Monitors as well (Mk2). I think you need a little less bottom on the vocals and maybe more mid/high.

Sounds great to me. Sort of Ultravox (Vienna) meets Dire Straits. Played with loads of feel.
An aside: I wonder whether there could be slightly less click in the compression on the guitar. Do you happen to be using the Blue compressor in Podfarm, which is based on the Boss compressor? I wonder whether the Red comp (based on the MXR Dyna comp) might be better. I own real versions of both and I've found that the blue can be a bit clicky. But I've probably got that completely wrong and I'm possibly talking rubbish and nitpicking and waffling. In which case, ignore this paragraph.
You're amazingly prolific. You can turn out three tunes in the time it takes me to decide on a snare sound

You have good ears.I now that Blue compressor and actually like it's,"Clickiness" where appropriate but it's not on this. This sound comes from one of the several acoustic guitar patches I made in Podfarm using the Piezoacoustic Amp which I love for this kind of stuff.
I like the clickiness as it carries through the reverb which is what I was after

Buy Jamstix. It will totally change the way you write/think and makes things much easier. It will speed up song production and above all else it's really fun to use once you get into it
