Faderport with Reaper
Hey Im thinking about getting a Faderport to use with Reaper. I currently have an EMU Xboard 25 and a M-Audio es61 controller and I was thinking about getting an MPD because of the transport functions but the Faderport looks like it has so many more options regarding transport. Any of you guys use this and do you like it? Any problems with it?

Happy Faderport owner here. And there a many others here as well. Reaper works just fine for me out of the box. Someone on the forum wrote some kind of patch or something to make it work with their system I think. And some others find that useful. You should do a search on "Faderport" and you'll find a number of threads that'll probably answer all your questions. And, welcome to the forum!

I love mine. Works like a charm. The behavior of the shift key is a little different than usual. Most programs, you hit shift and it stays on. Hit it again and it turns off. In Reaper, you instead need to hold down the shift key the whole time. If you don't like this (I didn't), there is a downloadable plugin that will fix this that a forum member wrote.
Otherwise there's a TON of function in this unit. I BARELY touch my keyboard when tracking. Add in how customizable actions are in Reaper, and you can map all kinds of extra functions. I have my mix, proj, and Trns buttons doubling as measure forward/measure backward/save project. You can do all kinds of neat stuff like that. Touch sensitive motorized fader is QUIET, not like the Behringer units. It's a whisper, not a CLONKATNANKKK!!

lol - I can see the similarities.
But seriously, it's a great little controller and best of all, we crammed a lot of features and suggestions by the Reaper community into the plugin. Each of the Pan, send, EQ, plugin and auto sections is very feature rich.
Here's a look at the cheat sheet for it:

I really like my Faderport. I just wish I could write envelopes other than volume. For instance, I'd like to be able to write cutoff and resonance envelopes for the JS Moog filter. Doing it with the mouse never seems to be smooth enough.
Love the transport controls though. It's worth it just for those.

I see that Alphatrack has the ability to control the EQ. Does the Faderport have this ability?

The Alphatrack has a lot of usability added via the plugin, but it works only on Windows... :/

Another happy Faderport user here. But with one question if you allow:
I've noticed that when I'm selecting a track with my mouse the Faderport focus will follow, ie. it will control the track I have just selected. That is expected.
However, when I select a track with trough an action (say: "Track: Select track 01") the MCP/TCP will select the new track but the Faderport will stay put where it was.
I'm using the alternative plugin, tried both values for the select_is_touched parameter but I had similar experience with the stock plugin as well.
Is it the way it should be? Or is it just me...
My idea was to select track quickly from my Launchpad and keep balancing them through the Faderport. The way it works right now doesn't help.
Faderport owners - can you confirm that?
Other than that - Faderport (and Alphatrack as well, I suppose) are awesome.

Can't get Faderport to work in Reaper 4.02
Hi all; I've been scouring the Reaper forum for help on getting my Faderport to work within Reaper, but still no result. Under Option:Preferences:Control Surface it is entirely blank and doesn't list anything about an HUI. Nothing, I've done has improved the situation. The Faderport does show up in the Midi Devices list though. But in different posts it says I both should and shouldn't enable the faderport within midi devices.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim G.

Go to options: control surfaces and click "Add" - your faderport should be listed there to select.

Hi and thanks for the response. I've tried doing just that a number of times and the Faderport is not listed there, or anything else. It's entirely blank. It does put a window to select "Control Surface Settings" which is also blank. On the other hand the Faderport is listed under midi devices section of the Options:Preferences section of Reaper.

Have you tried re-installing the faderport drivers?
Actually, this still makes little sense. Even without the faderport, the list should already be populated with a number of choices. When you click "ADD" you should have a window pop up that says "Control Surface Mode:" with a blank bar next to it. On the bar is an arrow. Click the arrow and you should get a drop down list that includes the BCF2000, Alphatrack, MCU, Faderport, etc...

Yes I did try reinstalling the faderport driver and no difference. I agree that it seems like there should be a list of devices in the control surface window. I also tried reinstalling Reaper and that made no difference either.

The window that pops up when you click "add" - is there a little triangle there like I described?

Yes, the small arrow on the right. I click it and the window expands but there is nothing listed in the window. I have Reaper on my PC at my school office and there this window is populated with the usual names, but not so on the PC I actually compose on.

In that case, I would try a re-install of reaper on your PC. That list should be there.
