Default ProTools theme

Hi!
I'v just made some modifications to the theme I'v been using, and thought it would be fair to share it.
It's based on a mixture of the Vegas theme with PT3 icons.

It feels very easy on my brain.
Here it goes: http://www.canreco.com/4sawers/reaper/PT3-antiClick.zip
Just one trick... set Preferences>Appearence>VUMeters to 50Hz & 60dB/sec

Thanks to the original authors of the Vegas theme, PT3 icons and CyberClean splashscreen.

Regards!

Fantastic! I'll be installaling this before my next use. This should definitely be included in the available themes bundled into Reaper.

Hey, just wanted to chime in. Wicked splash screen. Theme's really good too, but hampered by the icon size in places.

Yes, great theme ! Sincere congratulations antiClick !

...One lovely PT element is the "3D liquid meters" (also used in the latest Waves plugins) - is it possible to add this kind of graphic to the Reaper ?

Wow! It's good news people is using the theme
Thanks for the compliments, but the hardest work was done by the PT icons maker

About the meters....
Try to set Preferences>Appearence>VUMeters to 50Hz & 60dB/sec

I used ProTools 5 and found nothing special about their meters.
Is it a new addition from the 6 version?
Whats' the liquid meters thing?

Yes they are pretty meters but rather useless with little to no markings to indicate an actual loudness value (db, dbfs, dbu?). A double led light that shows green for signal and red for clipping will show nearly as much.

While I too would like to have some markings, we really aren't looking at digital meters for the same reasons as analog meters are we? The truth is, most DAWs have meter errors anyway. You really need an outboard digital meter.

If you calibrate your inputs (like we do in PT HD) to a specific operating/headroom level, then you can pretty much know what you are looking at in PT's meters.

I hesitated before posting my comment as it seemed a bit rash and the liquid meters do look nice. I'm all for proper calibration of any monitoring setup and in this approximations are good but accuracy is better.

What operating level do you calibrate to in your studio?

0dBV= -18 in PT HD 192s = 24dB of headroom

Actually, the stock configuration of a 192 is -18db digital is 0dbu (which is the +4 over .7v scale). The -18 digital denotes that you have a true 18 db of headroom. On the dbV scale (usually refernced to -10db below 1V) you would have almost 12db more headroom, so almost 30. Though Pro Tools 192's come with true -10 calibrated inputs, and dual calibrations for the outputs that you can switch between so that you always have 18db of headroom.

I usually mod this calibration to -20 digital is +4dbu so that I conform to post standards. I find for recording, this allows a lot of headroom for peaky material like percussion. But most pop mixing only has about 12db of headroom at most, a holdover from tape which can only usually manage 12db on a good day. So I'll sometimes calibrate to that (-12db digital) when mixing, especially to tape but even without.

Likewise most pro-sumer gear will have a fixed calibration point, my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is fixed at -12 digital is -10dbV so I go with that through my Mackie mixer. Any gain, + or -, in both digital or analog, can lead to a muddying or thinning or the sound in pro-sumer gear. Optimal gain staging can help, but never hurts.

Our interfaces (good old 888/24) are calibrated to deliver +6dU (instead of +4dBU), because we're doing broadcast material.

Yes, 18dB of headroom on the digital side. I have 24dB above 0dBV on the console. I should have clarified that.

well HEY! again - what makes you think I would want to make an 'accusation' here and be serious about that?

I added TWO icons to my post just to avoid misreadings... should I have added more?

Hi! This only adjusts the metering refresh and decay. Much easier to work with and better looking than the actual defaults (IMVHO).

Anticlick, you could add the Send/FX buttons of my theme modification. They're replicas of the actual Protools buttons in PT 7.3.

Here's a shot of what currently looks like in my modification of the 2.0 White Tie theme, and the ZIP download:

This is a very cool theme. I love seeing the list of fx above each channel. How do you set this up in the preference?
