what is Signal to noise ratio in simple terms
It is the average power of the signal (intended information) divided by the average power of the noise (unintended information).
As the signal increases in power, relative to the noise power, the SNR increases.
In audio terms, the signal is whatever you are intending to record (i.e., a guitar) and the noise is everything else (e.g., tape machine hiss).
