View Full Version : Resetting meters after clipping (FIXED)

Hi there

I dont know if this is a bug or intentionally, so I've put it in the Nitpicks...

Whenever a track is clipping its meter turns red on the top/far right in both the mixer view an the track panel it self. Intuitatively I would click the red part of that meter to reset it again. This however only works on the mixer view and not in the track panel. Here instead it shows the track input popup.

For me its really anoying, because the mixer view is not always on in my setup and as it is now thereby works against the excellent "one click - one action" philosophy of Reaper :-)

As far as I recall it was different a couple of versions ago (now I'm on 2.0b), so the input popup would only show if you clicked the green part of the meter.

Can it be changed back to that? It is perhaps a matter of opinion what users prefer, so... ;-)

Hmm... left-click works in both places here...? Right-click opens input pop-up in both places...

And you can reset all from a keyboard shortcut if that helps.

This is very strange - I just tested on my laptop and there it works as you describe. For some reason the install on my DAW is messed up. Resetting all the keyboard shortcuts didn't change anything and re-installing neither. Deleting the ini-file could perhaps help, but then all my other settings would be gone.

I would prefer that they are not reset automatically, but only when I ask for it... but thanks anyway, doclike :-)

I figured it out now. Sort of. Look at the picture below. If I click left of the green line the pop-up appears, eventhough I click on the red part. If I click on the right side of the line, everything is fine.

Not the highest priority bug, but just slightly annoying ;-)

The clip area on your meter is MUCH larger than on the theme I am using! I can see now why you are having that behavior. There must be a setting somewhere to adjust that clip indicator size...

Ok... I'll look into that. First I thought it could be a colortheme related problem, but even with the standard theme its there.

Hold on... it could also be a scaling issue... know what I mean? If I have the TCP at one size and you have it larger, the scaled larger clip indicator might be err... not scaled properly! I'll investigate and get back...

D

EDIT: HAH! That's IT! If you drag the TCP to the right, it elongates the meters. The clip indicator area of course grows with it... BUT the click-able area DOES NOT. It's a bug. I am using V2.0Beta6. It does it with the default theme too.

EDIT 2: I dropped a post in the "Bug Reports" section of the forum. Wonder how long that one has been there? Good catch.

well... you're welcome :-)

I had a feeling that it could be due to scaling, but I thought: Nah... why would Justin make it like that? Its probably just me having some foolish setting

Anyway - now I also know how to solve the problem :-) Thanks Diogenes

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but.. man, what is this miracle keyboard shortcut. I have searched for reset and meter and I just can't seem to find it.
