Hi all,

Some time ago I came across an interesting voice effect:

anyone know how this is generated?

thanks a lot in advance!

Lots of stuff going on there.
There is probably a multitude of plugins in use but you could get close with Autotunefx and a short slap delay.
Does sound as though some sort of modulated sweep is being used, which \i why I went for autotune FX.

Have you tried asking the guy who recorded it?

Sometimes they will just tell you.
Its obviously a favourite trick of his

Sounds like a speech synthesizer to me, although it could be a real person talking, and they just used pitch shifting to make it sound more robotic.

Windows and OSX both have a speech synthesizer, btw. In windows 7, open the control panel and click on "Ease of Access". You can set it to read all the text on screen. That might give you the sound you're looking for.

thanks for the feedback.
I'll try it out.

Let us know what you did and how close you got.

will do ivansc, thnx again.

so far I have been working with the chorusdelay with some results.
I put the original voice in one channel, added another layer with the effect and played a bit with the volume going up and down to add or reduce the effect.

I don't really know if that is the right approach but it's starting to get somewhere, although the results might be different from what I initially was after.

Sounds like it could be chopped up, pitch modified, stretched samples. Or speech synth as mentioned by others. Lots of effects really.

As an option for that old school robot voice effect a vocoder is the order of the day (rather different to your track though):

forgot all about razor! :-)

thanks.

I got it to work with some sweet results as a standalone, but can't get it to work in reaper though :/
any ideas on how to add this effect into reaper?

thanks a lot.

In EDM that effect is common, usually gone about by chopping up the items and doing things to them for example throwing Tape Stop effect one of them (easier done in Logic but in Reaper you could put a preset of a tape stop as an item fx) and for small fluctuations in pitch you also have the pitch envelope for each item.

Although I have Razor I haven't tried that function myself yet.

Thanks fergler, I'll keep that in mind and try it out.

And to softsynth: I had some trouble trying razor out in reaper.
The vst didn't work (no output in reaktor), but the ivst did with an extra channel with the vocals that you send trough the main channel of reaktor.
That's how I could get it to work.
Maybe to keep in mind when you get the chance to try it out?

Thanks for the feedback all! Consider this one solved.

if you want to generate synthetic voice audio, check out IVONA. otherwise, not sure which effect you want.

thanks foxAsteria, I'll keep that option in mind.

And for those who want to know what I got so far:

it's far from perfect but I hope it's getting somewhere.
