Hi all,

If anyone feels like listening to some mixes and offer advice I'd appreciate it. These are 4 tunes of a Western Swing band I play in. You can find the tunes here:

Thanks!!

Very cool tunes and playing...western swing is a cool style in general.

All I have heard of western swing is old recordings, so I kind of expect to hear less detail in the upper frequencies with more bottom (rounder and warmer), with less width and space around everythng than I'm hearing here. The bass sounds really bright to me, and the electric guitar sounds really thin and bright (for example as 27 seconds into the first tune). It sounds more like a live recording, than

I guess this probably describes better than what I can with words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPn9ph7cavc
Or maybe this (although I think the rhtyhm guitar is too bright): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhfMyEeSChU

the electric guitar sounds really thin and bright (for example as 27 seconds into the first tune).

This is an electric 5 string mandolin which because of its shorter string length and higher pitch will never sound as full as a guitar. The only guitar is acoustic.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else?

Cool! Not my normal type of music but on occasion I am in to this stuff. The bass is awesome. But I agree it may be too bright. My only minor gripe really cause this is so out of my style

It's cool to see all the styles here on the forums

I was in to this for a long time, like for real! But maybe it's a different style... (Ducks his head in shame)...

I lover it man.. Yeah, the bas is mayve a hair too bright. And maybe the mandolin a hair too loud in the mix.. But the tunes are GREAT :)

'tis also not my regular listening choice but man, these are some tidy tunes.

I dunno how this sort of music 'supposed' to sound but I reckon you nailed it.
Everything sits nice to me....
Damn I do love dbl bass and yours sounds awesome.

sounds great! i'll just add what i'd like to hear, if it were my recording gig. the bass seems a little subservient, especially in that vein of music. i'd try to boost him (or her) up a bit in the 80 to 100hz range, which would also give this more of an "analog" sound.

and i only heard the first tune (i hear you talking), so that's what i'm referencing.

very well played and sung, but if i were arranging, i'd try to tighten up a few loose spots. i know it's hard to get a balance of loose and tight phrasing within a swing feel, and make it sound completely natural. that's why so precious few could ever do it.

but i'm just nitpicking. it sounds great. i love the players, and the singer's voice fits the genre perfectly.
