After some months studing and testing REAPER I have finaly bought it and left my old daw in the past. I am really excited about it because all of the reasons that all of you must know very well.
But it's a fact that comparing to my old daw (Sonar6), it's not fast to edit using REAPER. To make it as clear as possible, I'll list here two little things that make it slower in my opinion:
- zooming both in-out/horizontaly-verticaly using the mouse wheel is toooo slow and we can not change the speed
- there isn't the option of "hide all but the selected tracks then maximize them"
this last one I miss a lot 'cause many times I'd like to compare two tracks far from each other and it's not possible so far to have only both visible.

I don't use the scroll bars to zoom. Just use the mouse wheel and the key modifiers (ctrl & alt). It's super fast on my Logitech G9 with the freewheel mouse wheel. Heaps faster and more reliable than Cubase (don't know Sonar).
For more info check the mouse wheel prefs in preferences and download that PDF of the keys and modifyers for Reaper.

i agree, zoom in and out is pretty slow with reaper, i was a sony vegas addict, it was more faster to edit, so i had to assign zoom in max to a shortcut, so i can zoom in max very quickly....
Anyway, that 'd be nice to make the zoom faster....
Peace

I always map + and - to the horizontal zoom. Quick for me.

thanks a lot Drillbit for trying to help :)
but the preferences of the mouse in the control panel doesn't change it in REAPER.
I whote "mouse scroll, but "mouse wheel" is what I supposed to write. I also use the keys + wheel for zooming

Maybe get a new mouse? I have never had problems with this, four spins on the wheel and then im really in close on a clip. This should make some difference as I believe different devices have different resolution in scrolling etc, correct me if im wrong.

that's the point. four spins is too slow when you edit a lot. in Sonar I used to spin it just once to see exactly what I wanted.
if the same mouse is fast in one daw and slow in other, that's not the mouse.
