View Full Version : USB Interface Disconnects While Recording

Our SPL Crimson is working nicely with a Windows 7 laptop except: after recording for about five minutes the Host light on the Crimson goes out and Reaper freezes in record mode. If I unplug and re-plug the USB cable briefly, the two boxes start recognizing each other again. I have the latest Reaper and current SPL drivers installed, and we already tried reinstalling the drivers. The only other connected device is a Kensington trackball mouse. Could use some help here. Thanks

Is it, or can it be powered externally or is it USB powered? If it can be powered externally and isn't, try that. Secondly, USB devices will drop like a rock if the USB buss bandwidth is exceeded enough - if memory serves.

Crimson is not USB powered. I was recording one channel at 24bit 44.1 so bandwidth should not be real high.

Make sure USB selective suspend is disabled.
Set power management for each USB hub in device manager (untick allow computer to turn off this device in properties)
Set Windows to use the High performance power scheme.

If this is a new system, then follow the advice above for drivers and making Windows behave.

If this is a system that's been working and now suddenly having disconnects and nothing has changed on the software end (you can boot older known systems and the problem is still there and so forth), it may be a sign of the USB chip in the device starting to fail. Sounds like the telltale symptom.

Problem solved - "USB Selective Suspend" was enabled. Thanks to all who attanded to my question.
