Oh why not :)

I'm trying to poke around and find a style that would suit a video game I am programming. Of those three, one last push is probably my favourite.

Hmm, not sure whether vgm isn't very popular or my music just sucks :)

Made a new tune for a bossfight. Kinda like how this one turned out:

Very cool, I like "weakpoint" the most. Portrays the tension very well, and the mix is nice and full.
One last push was a bit piercing for me at the sections where to solo synth kicks in. Perhaps the treble could be reduced from one of the high end instruments when they all play together.

That's it, nice work.

I also write videogame/chiptune and have a project on hold that's about 1/3 finished (the writing part).

I like all 3, maybe its just me but I found the drums (the kick on most songs) a bit too loud. musically they're great and I was almost getting nostalgic for some good shmups.

Thank you both for your time :)

I still have to do the final mix on all of these to get the levels of all the tracks in a similar ballpark. I will take into account your advice when I do that. :)

I will tone down the highs a bit in those sections. It's always tempting to make a mix brighter and brighter, but you're right, when I do A/B comparisons, those parts are pretty shrill. Not sure why I didn't notice that.

About the kick drums, you are probably right. I often have a tendency to overemphasize them. It's a personal weak point of mine. I used to listen to a lot of drum and bass, where either the kick or the snare is the most prominent part of a track. They should probably be a little more in the background here since they'd probably be interfering with the game sound effects too much too.

And Usta, cool, do you have anything for the project online? :)

not at the moment, currently I'm trying to finalize an electronic project. After that's done I'll start uploading my songs (gamemusic, electronic and rock music).

I also listened to drum n bass a lot and went to parties. My tendency whilst mixing is always getting the hihats too loud in the mix and making the mix as bright as possible until ears start to bleed lol.

Cool. I like all three. :)

And yeah, same. Brighter and punchier were always my pitfalls. I was originally thinking of going with a dnb soundtrack actually, but in the end decided against it because I don't want to use anything I don't have a license for (no sampled breaks) and I think I like cheesy melodies in games too much. In the end I want to go over these again to reign them in a bit more in terms of their presence.
