Hi there, it's me again, Sampo...

had to take some out-time, but recently I completed some dance-kind-of-thing.

So... what can I say - it's completely out of the box. I layered three drumsets until I was convinced not to throw the whole ting into the dust-bin. It's kind of inspired by EDM, but I did't master it so loud as comparable productions. The vocals come from loops, I downloaded recently and made them (in parts) suitable via ReaTune.

But anyway - perhaps you enjoy.

I like the rhythm and harmonic changes. The solo or lead riffs are good, and the support vamping is good. What distracted me was the busy drum/percussion track. Is the drum set electronic? I don't bond well with electronic drums so that may be all that's throwing me off center. It would be very interesting to hear what a real drummer would do with this.

A refreshing idea. I like the way you set the jazz type vocal riffs over the sound track.

Hey Gary,

I think you got a point. The drums are too busy. At least in the vocal/solo parts. Gonna thin'em out a little bit.

And yes - they are somehow electronic. I layered three different virtual drumsets from which two are going more in an electronic direction. I gated the snares (in fact this was a first-time-experiment). Personally I like the overall sound of the drums, but maybe I got a bit over the top with the midi-loops I used.

By the way - I think my daughter spoke of "stone-age techno" when I played her an earlier version.

So this track doesn't give me an EDM vibe at all. Instead it reminds me of a track I really love from The Avalanches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3YR-RKrL1g

I don't know if you're familiar with them, but this song in particular has the disco beat and the 70s instrumentation that you're working with on "Spaceflight Society" (they're rocking the flute, you've got the sax).

Anyway, I love the title, think the sax is a great part, and think you're close to a sweet sway-dance nostalgia track here. If you're still working on it I'd be curious to hear a next version. This one seems like it was fun to do.

I like it - the only criticism I would have is the drums. They seems a little weak/far back in the mix. If you are going with the EDM-influence, I think a big thuddy 4-on-the-floor kick would really bring the energy up (not through the entire track probably, but when it picks up maybe).

I like all of the instrumentation and how the vocals fit in. Good stuff!

Thank you guys for your critiques!

And jonboper - reminding you of The Avalanches (in fact I didn't know them before, but I listened to some tracks of them - really beautiful!)... I take it for a great compliment.

At the moment I'm mostly messing around with the drums. Another version of this song will be released soon. I'll post it here.

Greetings,

Sampo

Hi guys,

here is a second version of this track. I simplified parts of the drum-arrangement (more into some disco-thing) and threw out most of the synth-drums. Additionally I made some minor changes in the mix.

Hope you like it - any further critique is highly appreciated.

Greetings,

Sampo

So, this is (#edit: could be) the final version. Mainly did some additional work on the bass tracks, on the kick (#edit: gotta do more on this) - and on the sibilants of the vocals. Meanwhile I like this track. Sounds (#edit: halfway) round to me.
