Okay folks, this is a big one!
I just got an email from Waves, announcing that REAPER 6 is officially replacing their own Tracks Live software for live sound recording!
"
We are pleased to let you know that REAPER 6.0 is now qualified by Waves for multitrack recording and playback on Waves SoundGrid systems, via the SoundGrid Driver. We will continue to qualify major versions (6.0, 7.0, etc.) of REAPER for this purpose.
In parallel, development of the Tracks Live multitrack recording software has been discontinued. Tracks Live continues to be compatible with the systems on which it has worked until now (see system requirements). On newer systems, REAPER 6.0 is now the qualified live recording software to use with SoundGrid.
For any queries, please feel free to contact Waves technical support.

... Astonishing, regarding many complains that Reaper users post in these forums about using Waves products (mostly complains due to the license control technology).

It would be interesting to know whether this was decided in consultation with Cockos.
It is also mentioned on the Tracks-Live product page:

What is SoundGrid, for what is it good, is it a soundcard?

Great. THIS would be a great feature for a future version of Reaper !
Other than with many issues, I seem to think that a native integration in the DAW would be more beneficial than some plugin with a standard (VST / device / ...) interface. I.e. better than the Waves original offering. Maybe they might collaborate...

I know one can dream, but this is absolutely not going to happen. The way I see it, qualifying Reaper was a straight up business decision. If you look at older FoH interviews from Waves, you can actually spot REAPER quite regularly in the background (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQwc8ryP7b8 at 0:39). Tracks Live most likely never took off. They initially sold an optional Premium Service Agreement with it, which they retired after a couple years. Additionally the last update was released in January 2017. So my guess is, they were never able to establish Tracks Live in the professional FoH sector the way they set out to. And as many people were using REAPER instead anyway, it made more sense to just qualify it and pull their resources from Tracks Live.
Keep in mind this is all just about having a stable DAW for Multitrack Recording & Virtual Soundcheck. REAPER 6 is not yet officially qualified as a supported host for their plugins.

this is absolutely not going to happen.
I suppose this is an answer to "collaborate", not to Reaper some day featuring more advanced networking options. The Reaper devs are perfectly able to do this by themselves - maybe stealing some ideas about the feature list. We already do have "ReaMote" that provides am appropriate networking protocol and does work great. Hence the basics are already done.

I have been using Soundgrid, Reaper and an Allen& Heath SQ5 all through Ethernet for about 8 months now. All works well. One thing I haven't figured out is how to send MTC through Soundgrid. I want to patch a Laptop into the network via Ethernet and have the MTC of the applications on the laptop slaved to the applications on the Soundgrid host computer. Can't really find much information on this. I'm on Windows 10. Anyone done this?
