View Full Version : Quick question for the developers

Just thought I'd see if we can get a word from the developers on a couple of features still outstanding on the OSX version of Reaper, namely the use of the shift key as a modifier for the scroll wheel and a 'drag to copy notes' action in the midi editor (uses control-drag in the PC version...option-drag would be nice in OSX for consistency across applications:)).

Are these things we will see in future builds of Reaper OSX?

Cheers.

Bill.

Really...nuthin'? Geez. Ok, how about this one. There seems to be a whole lot of extension thingies that get mentioned in the general discussion forum (Xenakios' one comes up a lot). I presume they aren't applicable to the Mac version (being dlls and such), but will there be some way for Mac users to take advantage of these in the future?

Cheers.

Bill.

Yeah at some point we may allow mac users to customize how the modifiers map.. shift as a scrollwheel modifier should be assignable at the moment.. what did you have in mind exactly?

also extensions should port over fairly easily using SWELL, we need to provide some samples for plug-in devs though..

And there should be easier ways to run OS-X for lamers like me who just happen to be really comfortable using only Windows... ;) I would not currently want to upset the setup I have by starting to fiddle with Hackintosh etc...If there's a Mac capable dev reading this, I might offer to give out the source codes for the commands extension plugin, if a Mac port would be realized out of that...

Thanks for the replies Justin and Xenakios.

The shift modifier works with everything but the scroll wheel. On my macbook, it works with all keystrokes and the touch pad, but when I plug in my usb trackball (hate the touch pad for audio), shift and mousewheel does nothing. This has been confirmed by a few other forum members. One was on a G5 IIRC. At the moment I've substituted other modifier combinations but it would be great to get shift back.

The other part of the first question was drag-copy of midi notes in the midi editor. Ctrl-drag does it in the PC version but no combination seems to do it in the mac version.

Good news about the possibilites for porting extensions in the future.

Cheers.

Bill.

Try cmd+drag? that should work...

Nope. Nothing. Just drags normally without copy. I've tried every combination I can think of. Cmd+drag works fine for items in the main arrange page, just not in the midi editor.

Perhaps if some other mac user could chime in to confirm it? And the shift key as a mousewheel modifier as well. Tallisman?

Really appreciate this Justin.

Seems like these are genuine bugs at the moment Justin. Are they not appearing at your end at all?

Cheers.

Great stuff Justin. Both issues solved. You're setting new standards for developer responsiveness.

That's why we're all not just willing but keen to pay the man and his cohorts. I don't think I'm alone in declaring Reaper the best experience I've ever had with intellectual property.

You'll get no argument from me there. Mind you, there are a few plugin developers that spring to mind as being right up there. Urs Heckman for example.

A friend showed me reaper about 6 months ago and I have never gone back.....despite all the bug reports, the mac version does everything I need. I've been spreading the word ever since. Great job reaper team.

Reaper is also extremely popular at GuitarMasterClass.net, and I have been keeping a post going there to point out the newest releases especially for OSX users, and I've been very happy to report 2.45 and .46, although I'm not a power user, it's doing everything well for me.
