I'm used to selecting multiple tracks with shift-clicking or control clicking in windows... is there a comparable function for mac?

I believe it is command.

Nope. Control+command will add a track to the overall selection, but then I have to click out of the inevitable menu that pops up (not exactly a time saver). I've tried every manner of secondary operation key combo and I can't select multiple tracks unless I want a menu to pop up for every track I click on. Furthermore, I can't click on one track, hold a key and click four tracks down to select all the little buggers in between. This is frustrating.

Weird. It's definitely not working. I'm running a MacBook refurb... should I contact Apple?

I've tried the MCP and TCP, just about anywhere on the track that doesn't make a menu pop up.
Edit: still no go in 2.46
