I have seen a lot of different ways of changing songs, project tabs, etc. in this forum, but my live use for reaper is more basic than that. I have a midi'd Vibraphone and just need to change patches. some patches need to use the audio from the vibes and some don't so a script that just changes tracks won't really work. I do need to change on the fly without to much of a glitch and I also need to use my touch screen to do so. Anybody got a suggestion for what would be the simplest method to pull this off with Reaper?

Thanks

While I am not sure bout the implications of a "midi'ed Vive":

In most cases the "simplest" method is using LiveConfigs (see the sticky thread here for details.

I guess the easiest way on touchscreen is to set up all the tracks you need and then enable 'auto-arm when track selected.' So you can just touch the track.

You mention changing tracks won't work, but why not? You're just changing where the MIDI goes, essentially. Doesn't matter if they're hardware or software synths.

Big caveat with touch screen is that it's really easy to drag a track by accident, which can create folders and thereby change routing. I requested a lock feature to prevent this many years ago...sigh.

Thanks to both of you for your reply. What I ended up doing was to use Larry Seyer's awesome script. I simply put the audio input from the Vibraphone on track 17 with the fx chain I use and unchecked the "send to master" box. Then on every patch where I wanted to layer the two sounds I.E. "vibes and strings", "vibes and pad" ect. I added an audio send to that track. The sounds I use without layering the vibes, I didn't send the vibes to. Lastly, since I just use the audio alone most of the time I made track 1 with no effect and just sent the vibe to it. It worked great! Patch changes are accomplish with the number pad instantaneously and reaper is rock solid.

I just created a JSFX that performs routing of Note-on events from a single source (/keyboard) to two targets (VST instruments). The Target is selected by sending an appropriate CC messages to the JSFX.

If you are interested I'll upload it to ReaPack.
