i see how fader movements can be recorded, cool! can a track fader or pan be assigned to a knob/slide on a keybd?

others have requested it also

It's coming - perhaps after MIDI recording and rewire are straightened out, perhaps they have other plans.

ok. so is there a way to smoothly chg the fader with a mouse. i mean something like a fine tune that allows you to move in small increments.

otherwise, it seems only giant faders would make this useful. thx!

Hold down the Ctrl button.

It's not really MIDI automation, it's more like MIDI remote control. Automation is what REAPER has. Remote control is what REAPER needs :)
