I was just thinking would be much hassle to target the RTAS format from IPlug?
Is anybody already doing RTAS-plugins with the framework?
Thanks!

i heard that avid have loosened their restrictions on who can develop rtas...
even freeware rtas are now appearing... like here: http://www.valhalladsp.com/freqecho.html
so i think this is a very good question to ask once again...

protools is listed in iplug's "Hosts.h"!
are we there yet?

Anybody wanting to do RTAS plugins needs to be an Avid certified developer, there's no (legal) way around that. Once in the possession of the ProTools SDK, someone could of course write their own IPlug subclass to handle the RTAS spesific stuff.

Doesn't mean anything in terms of RTAS plugins. Perhaps the VST->RTAS adapter plugin informs the plugins the host is "ProTools", so the IPlug plugin can attempt to workaround bugs in the adapter etc.

thanks for that info, xenakios. maybe someday ( ...we won't have to contemplate such horrors :) )

Exactly. Hosts.h/Hosts.cpp is just so the plugin can identify what host it's running in/on to work around compatibility issues such as some hosts not supporting sidechain, etc.

I don't know about "loosening restrictions"...The Digidesign/Avid page for signing up as a developer CLEARLY states that no, you can't have a copy of the SDK for educational, research, or "just to check it out" purposes...you have to have a clear vision of what you're doing and how you're going to turn it into a business...they don't WANT freeware plugins.

At least that's the way their site reads. Not sure where the free plugins are coming from...a copy of the SDK gone rogue, or somebody just did a clean-room reverse engineering of the protocol.

*shrug*

Let's not get http://www.valhalladsp.com/freqecho.html pegged for giving away "free RTAS" or connected with any rogue copies of the SDK, I know him heh. Just clarifying here. Additionally to clarify those plugs are not iPlug either.

As xenakios said, He has a clear business plan, and paid products.

Nah, wasn't saying he was doing anything wrong, just that Digidesign hasn't made any indication that I've seen to allow people to do that. Digidesign doesn't just rubberstamp applications as they come across the desk. If there ARE people out there doing that (the post seemed to imply multiple sources), then I'm not sure how they're managing it...that's all I"m saying.
