View Full Version : Recording my second album

07-08-2010, 09:13 AM

I'd like to share with you my musical project called Spleen Arcana. I self released my first album last year, The Field Where She Died (sold around 400 of it, Classic Prog readers may have read a review of it by the way) and I started some weeks ago the recording of my second album.

I probably should describe it, so I'd say that it's in the progressive rock vein, some say "crossover prog". Anyway, songs are quite long with a lot of changes and many keyboards. Vocals are awkward, production is homemade, nothing is perfect but it was a hard and very personal work, I hope you'll enjoy it in some way ;)

A huge change is that I'm using Reaper to record the second album (Samplitude for the first one). It's really exciting to work in a different way and I'm really glad to work with Reaper, I can manage those long songs and tempo changes so easier!

About my second album, I write a studio diary here : http://www.spleenarcana.com/category/studio-diary/second-album/ where you can watch some videos of the work in progress

I'm on holidays so I brought my mobile rig to record vocals in the countryside ;)

Toshiba laptop, Great River preamp, EMU 0404 usb card, Studio Projects C1 microphone and of course Reaper ;)

I noticed that Reaper and EMU 0404 works better with Asio4all driver...

It remains me only three days to finish the vocals.. Ouch ;)

Hi everyone!

I thought I could let you know that I'm looking for someone who would enjoy singing on my project. I'm not sure about it but it could be interesting to see what happens... :)

If you write the lyrics, I will sing for you. I am a somewhat lackluster lyricist, but a semi-decent vocalist. :)

Hi there!

Some news from SA towers : Drums are recorded for album II :p it was quite epic to record them as we only had 3/4 days but we did it ;)
I was using Reaper to record drums for the first time and it was so smooth and easy! I'm very satisfied by how Reaper worked for the sessions!!

Here is a small video about the recording sessions :

I wrote more on my website : http://www.spleenarcana.com/studio-diary/second-album/drums-recorded-for-album-ii/

Thanks for reading ;)

It's been a while!! First of all, happy new year to all!

I finally released a new song titled "Erin Shores (part one)" from my forthcoming second album.

I recorded and mixed this song exclusively in Reaper, actually I also did my "homemade mastering" with it. I'm so satisfied by Reaper now that I don't even remember what I was using before (actually, I remember it was Samplitude probably because of the price I've paid for it LOL)

You can listen and download the song on Bandcamp here :

And watch the clip here :

Many thanks!

Hi there!

After years of work and hours and hours of Reaper experimentations, I finally released my second album this week on Bandcamp, it's called The Light Beyond The Shades. A brigther album summoning stronger 70's progressive rock influences.

It's available for streaming and downloading here:

Hope you'll enjoy it!

Thanks ;)
