View Full Version : glitched audio heard from FX after I press stop (FIXED)

I running a 96k mix project and pushing the CPU to 80 percent. When I press stop I hear (digitally) distorted audio parts playing from my reverb and delay sends for about two seconds. What would cause this? Render ahead?

too low buffer size setting (asio) or pci-bus problems i guess.

In Audio prefs, have you got "Always run track FX" ticked? This, in my recent experience, can cause the problem you mention. But if you untick it you may get reverb tails appearing at the start of playback. And you have to then be careful they do not get added to the start of a render.

My buffer size is set at 1024 on a FireStudio. Thats the highest setting. Yes I do have always run FX set.

this is primarily caused by the fact that the fx rendering process, when stopped, can't make use of multiple processors.. so when playing you have enough power, but when stopped, you run out. We'll probably address this at some point in the next few months ;)

for your testing pleasure:

http://reaper.fm/files/reaper1846_tail.zip

Uses SMP while stopped.. configurable running of reverb tails even when "Always run fx" is off (prefs/playback).

also fixed glitches from stopping too..

This update seems to fix the issue. I dont have the original 96 k project to reference , but I quickly built a new project, recreated this issue then loaded your fix... so far so good.

Thanks man!

What changed in the last zip? The behavior seems to be the same.

Justin, what took you so long?! :)

This is very good. With "always run FX" off, the problem with Classic reverb tails getting added to the start of playback or render seems to be fixed. When stopping, there seems to be a kind of momentary doubling kind of thing, a kind of bump in the playback as playback stops, but I don't see that as a big issue (though if it could be smoothed, even better). I rather like the sound of the reverb tailing off on stop. Less jarring than a dead stop, and handy for judging how the tail is sounding.
