Hello people

Since a couple of years back, none of my current friends are musicians nor have any real musical knowledge. Hence I rely entirely on my own ears and have a tendency to grow "deaf" to your own music.

Most of my friends/work collegues think that this cover I did sound really good. I have a faint goal of sometime soon do a live gig with background music pre-recorded and play the accoustic guitar and sing along to that. Probably the venue will be a very small place like a café or a pub or something.

Can anyone please head on over to the below link and tell me, truthfully and honestly, if I'll be making a fool of myself or not?

I don't think you'd be making a fool of yourself at all, and I admire you for taking on that particular song. The thing is, though, you're walking in the footsteps of a studio original which has, not just a good vocal, but an awesome vocal. So, if you're going to perform this song, I think you should pull out all the stops to make it your own. Otherwise, what's the point? To be honest, I'd rather hear you perform something original.

Still, if you wanna do it, do it. You can do it.

Compare and contrast.... this is not as good as it could be:

Thanks for the response, much obliged!

As I haven't played live in a long time (some 14 years or so ago), I thought that covers would be the best way to get going again. Especially since I've only played the guitar live a handful of times (usually played the bass).

You're right tho; I cant match Linda Perry in vocals, but chord-wise, this song is quite simple and something I know I can handle even if I should get a bit nervous before going onstage...

Again, thanks for taking the time to listen and respond!

when i met gibby haynes, i had hair like george clinton and he asked me what i do. without thinking, i stupidly said "the same thing you do" (thinking: music) and he said "make a fool of yourself?"

get silly, get stupid, let go even more is my vote. check out the video link, they are about as 'reject' as you can get, but they had a huge following. I think its cause if youre on that much... um... lets call it 'sleep deprivation' then you tend to be yourself just a little bit more than the rest of the sober and slow masses.

get long hair, abuse yourself and use a lot of effects.

sincerely,
RC

He's right. If you're going to do this song, you have to seriously, seriously, seriously not actually give a fuck.
