8 bit robotic, this time trying to be 'mainstream'

My local government has a competition for a song celebrating the city.
I'm definitely not going to win but I joined for the sake of trying to write, record and mix within a 2 week deadline.

To brainwash the jury I used some evil taboo production techniques such as:
- the 4 chord sequence that is used in every hit (C G A F)
- too many choruses with a simple melody
- cheesy back vocals
- song ending with a fade out
- hand clapping
- and not one, but two shifts of the chorus on a higher pitch! (this one should really be forbidden ;) )

I really welcome opinions on the mixing, it's the first time I spend so much effort on it. There's 2 versions with the only difference being one version where I compressed like crazy. I cannot decide if the super compressed version sounds better or worse so I'm also curious to know what you guys think..

The more compressed version sounds more natural to your 8-bit robotic personality. I'd pick that one to shove in their face.

Just to be sure, you meant 'master1' or 'master2'? ;)

Master1, since I assumed the thicker waveform on Soundcloud was more compressed.

Ok you are right, thank you!

More feedback anyone?
Now that I listen to it again I'm feeling something is missing, maybe in the mid range? Or it's just because I'm used to distorted guitars?
I also think the snare is too squashed.
And maybe there's too much reverb?

Nah, as far as Sarcastic Promotional Melodic Chiptune Pop Punk goes, it's an exemplary specimen.

edit: I'm for more sausage-shaped waveforms too. Also could use some cheering children samples.

Ah of course! Cheering children in the intro! How could I didn't think about it! ;)

For information the song was not selected by the government in the end.
I suspect the jury understood some lyrics. ;)

Valiant effort tho.
