I've made a document that describes what these media lists can be used for, what they could do and how they could look.

Keeping items organized is a difficult and time consuming task without some tools to help you.

A great deal of editing and mixing work is sped up when databases for existing material exists, whether that material is in the session or not.

Audiobook and dialog editors may need to find another take of the same line and search through all the recordings. This is of course much easier when that material is searchable in the DAW itself, instead of painstaikingly sifting through physical files that may not even be named properly, whereas the item itself may contain the correct description.

Editors could find alternate takes by sorting and filtering by name and the timecode in the original files (BWF timestamp).

But overall simply searching a list of files that are in the session would be a huge help for everyone who reuses audio over the course of several sessions.

For example, music writers would keep a stack of loops and sounds in a preprepated session or seperate media list to pick and choose from, just like we do with plugins. We don't seek those out by file, but keep them in a list, and if we wish, we sort them in to their own sublists as user-created ditectories in the FX browser.

The editor for radio plays, audio books, tv shows and films will keep elements he or she expects to use in such a list. Keeping them in extra tracks makes the much harder to locate. All picture cutting systems do the exact same thing, because some series reuse or keep in store a large number of establisher shots, or reuse shots from previous episodes or shows.

We who have used such systems for 20 years, would like to use Reaper for the same job.

Thus we request a system that gives us list boxes to keep material we place in it at hand and searchable. References, not copies.

Since promoting a sense of urgency to feature requests is en vogue I am suggesting this request be renamed Reaper Bay of Media Pigs to align it with the critical urgency of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
