Project (hours of work) statistics
To be able to better charge money from clients, I would love some project statistics:
Project opened time: hours:minutes
(This should only count the time when audio is running. So if Reaper is set to release the driver in background it shouldn't count time if the driver is not opened.)
Playpack + Recording time: hours:minutes
(This only counts the time used for playback and recording)
Editing time: hours:minutes
(Counting user input time via mouse/keyboard/midi control surface)
Good request? It's a bit inspired from the "Purchase" dialog in Reaper where we already can see the total usage time. So the counter already seems to be there ...

OK, can we get a cut of your fees then? Say, 10%? Just kidding... =)
Actually, this could be easily implementable as a JS on the master.. though its counter would get reset on undos etc.. hmmm. would be a very easy VST though.

Why not as real internal feature (new tab in the project settings) saved within the project file? I really wouldn't use a plugin for this!

I think this is a great idea, not just for charge calculation, but also to point out flaws and waist in the users work habits.

FL Studio 8.5 has this feature and it's implemented natively (in the project info tab).
I'd love to see something like that (no JS/VST plugins please) ;)

I have a thing called a "Clock".
It's pretty cool,- and best of all is stand alone and keeps working even if the client is late.
Kind regards

You must be rich if you can afford a clock!

And is it fun to write down the times? Having this in REAPER would be much more precise and trustworthy to a client (because measured by a machine not a human).

It should be built in and offer detailed statistics.
For example if I leave a project looping while I go clothes shopping it shouldn't be metered. Then again this would simply inflate the "Payback and record time".
How about a clock runs as long as user input is detected within a 5min window. This could be displayed as "edit time".

IMHO it should measure activity.
Any clicks that occur within 10 min time periods <- Edit Time
We don`t need any other statistics like 'Times pushed Play' or 'Times switched to internet porn' ;)

This just seems completely barmy. (insane for our american readers ;) )
What kind of price structure are other studios running these days that you want your DAW to monitor your work?,- it takes the amount of time it takes and you bill for it. easy.
Time spent coding this would be much better spent MAKING THAT DAMN EQ LINE THINNER!
:D
Kind regards

Well using it to base your charge on it is a bit weird, but i think it would simply be very informative for the user.

For charging purposes, if I'd be your client I'd rather have a number of actions performed minus the actions undone. :-) Click faster, dammit! ;-P

I think this can be very useful but it would be better if Reaper keeps a log with dates and hours info.
It could have a "idle" flag you can configure, for example, when there's no activity in 5 min (no play or editing) it should be reflected as "idle" in the log and taken as a log off.
I work a lot on my own and sometimes some things can take up much more time than a regular client thinks so this would be nice to prove you did work that much.
Sometimes you receive phone calls while working or visits... you always have to do some memory to think how long those took.
It's not because a client can start argueing with you but when they say "Oh, did it really take you up so long?" you say "Yes man! It was difficult, take a look at the log!" (when you really want to say: "Yes man! Next time learn to sign and I won't have to tune every single note.").

I won't charge anything with that but being able to know the time a project has been opened + the time a project has been in play or record mode would be a wonderful feature .. and probably the most easy feature to add nowadays (add two figures in the project .rpp and add a timer when opening or playing a project)
