Before REAPER v6.69, fades when created splitting were limited to 50 pixels. In 6.69 to current, they are limited to half or a quarter of the arrange view width. In current development builds, and 6.76 which should be released in the next couple of weeks, it will be configurable so you can use the old or new behavior, or customize it.
