Default Detailed Pictorial RADO V4 Installation Procedure

INTRODUCTION
Installing a theme is easy enough, it's drag and drop.
But some themes, like RADOv4, offer more: custom colors, toolbars and icons.

A) BEFORE YOU START
* Install and run Reaper, then exit.
* Install the SWS extensions, then run Reaper and exit.
(The SWS extensions are not required for version 4 of the RADO theme, but they're handy for coloring things, so this guide uses them.)

B) LOCATE THE CORRECT REAPER FOLDER
If you did a regular (non-portable) Windows 7 install there are at least two Reaper folders.
Only one of these folders stores your particular user settings, preferences, and themes.
The Reaper folder you want is at C:\Users\YourLoginName\AppData\Roaming\REAPER,
and looks similar to this:

Notice there are quite a few folders, one of which is Data.

The Reaper folder you DON'T want is at C:\Program Files (x86)\REAPER,
and looks similar to this:

Notice there are very few folders, one of which is InstallData.

So, if you see InstallData instead of Data, you're in the wrong folder.

But, if you're not sure, then you can:

Launch Reaper.
Select Options/Show Reaper resource path in explorer/finder...

---The proper location will pop up---
---Make a note of it.---

C) PUT NEW FILES IN PLACE
1. Download RADO-V4_full corrected folders.zip.
This zip file contains the latest RADO theme, a colorset file, and four folders:
ColorThemes, Data, KeyMaps and MenuSets.

2. Put a copy of the zip file into the correct Reaper folder---the one you found in the last step.
Extract the contents in place (context menu "Extract Here" if you use WinRAR or 7zip.)

* If done correctly, a window called Confirm File Replace will pop up, asking if you want to replace a MIDI.png file.

Say yes. You may also be asked to merge several folders. Say yes to all.

** To double-check that things are in the right place, look in your
ColorThemes folder and verify that RADO-V4.ReaperThemeZip is in there.

CHECK TRACK ICONS
Yes, yet another check to make sure everything is in the right place.

Launch Reaper.
Right-click some empty spot in the mixer.

Select Show track icons in Mixer.

Right-click some track on an empty spot.
Select Custom track icons/Set track icon...

A load image resource window pops up.
Navigate to REAPER\Data\track_icons.

If you see these folders then the custom theme icons are in the right place.

D) INSTALL THE THEME
Go to Options/Themes
Choose RADO-V4.
* You should see the changes take place immediately.

E) INSTALL THE THEME COLORS
Make a few tracks and right-click one of them on an empty spot.
Select Custom track colors/SWS track color.
Notice that the custom colors 1-16 are all black.

Now click on Show color management...

...and the SWS Color Management window pops up.
Notice the black and white gradient start and stop colors.

Click on Load color set from file...

The Choose color theme file window opens.
Navigate to your ColorThemes folder.
Open ColorToolbar_RADO-4_colorset.SWSColor.

Now your gradients will match your theme.

Close the SWS Color Management window.

TEST THEME COLOR INSTALLATION
Select all the tracks you made before and right-click one of them on an empty spot.
Select Custom track colors/SWS track color and notice that the custom colors all
match your theme, where before they were all set to black.

Now click on Set to color gradient.

A nicely colored gradient should have been applied to your track labels.

F) INSTALL THE TOOLBAR ACTIONS
Press the question mark (?) key on your keyboard.

The Actions window pops up.

Select Import/export... then Import...

Navigate to your KeyMaps folder
1. Open ACTIONS (Main).ReaperKeyMap

The window closes automatically.

Once again, select Import/export... and Import...
2. Open ACTIONS (Midi Editor).ReaperKeyMap

Close the Actions window.

G) INSTALL THE TOOLBARS
Honestly, drag and drop is the way to go here.
Ensure Reaper is running.

Find your Reaper MenuSets folder.

1) Drag and drop either
ACTIONS basic (Floating Toolbar 1).ReaperMenu -or-
ACTIONS full (Floating Toolbar 1).ReaperMenu
onto the Reaper window.

You will see a dialogue...

...say Yes. Next,

2) Drop either
MIDI basic (MIDI Piano Roll Toolbar).ReaperMenu -or-
MIDI fullbasic (MIDI Piano Roll Toolbar).ReaperMenu
onto the Reaper window.

You will see a dialogue...

...say Yes.

TEST THE TOOLBARS
Hit the F key to open your floating toolbars docker.
Toolbar 1 should now be customized for RADO V4.

* Find a Custom action on the toolbar and make sure it works.

* When you open the MIDI editor you should see that the toolbar
for it too has been customized.

That's it for now...
