OS corruption means a software issue, not a hardware issue. As you say, a problem with a driver. That doesn't mean there is no hardware issue accompanying it, just that the direct cause of the crashes is in software. And there are some ways to attemlt to fix these problems without reinstalling. Checkdisk, sfc scan, and then some specialized tools like the repair tool to name a few. However considering the pace, it may be wiser to reinstall indeed.
