@nofish Yes! I was actually experimenting with that yesterday (setting item to mono L, loudness normalizing, and setting it back to normal again) and got good results.
BUT I didn't think to turn that sequence into my own custom action until just now after reading your reply. So thanks for that! ;-)
It's possible there are other ambisonic folks (particularly working with higher order files) who would take issue with only using the first channel as the loudness reference, but I *think* my theory is sound for first order ambisonics at least? If nothing else, it should give me more consistent dialogue loudness.
So I take it then that SWS loudness *does* recognize and calculate loudness differently for multichannel files? If so, do you know how it's interpreting the channels once you go past stereo? (e.g. quad, 5.1, etc.)
