Yes this should be fixed a bit. Also, the ideal thing for me would be to have this setting in Project settings too, not only Global preferences. So each project could override the ranges or use global preferences. And of course fix the clamping issue when pasting etc. If project uses global preferences, it should be updated for all tabs that use global peferences, if not, they would still only update range when changed from project setting.
