What if time signatures were just a kind of marker?
What if we could just name a marker '=3/4' to insert?
As FnA said: tempo ramps across meter changes are practically impossible in the current system.
Meter doesn't change continuously and doesn't have values that can be mapped from 0 to 1 so a signature envelope is a kludge.
