Solved my own problem. Don't know how I touched it, since I didn't even know it was there, but the "Rate" knob was at .015. The knob is located next to the BPM and the time sig in the transport, for anyone looking that doesn't know...

Edit. Looking back at the sequence of events I probably accidentally hit it when I was hovering over and zooming out to finish the selection. User error, but totally undetectable until the horrifying results played back at me like Will Ferrell on ketamine.
