Or why why we have it at all. The answer for me is largely about emotion and communication but also something about its role in the wider culture. It's a complicated story and as far as I know, not fully explained. Wouldn't we have to assume aliens have at least some of these things in common with us including (as has been pointed out already) certain physiological parallels both in terms of perception but also maybe things like a heart system that might be the basis for rhythm.
The idea of an alien civilisation that did not have music is very strange, is it not? Imagine trying to explain why we do!

Not that I think there is anything to it, but the entire universe lives by the same laws of physics so it stands to reason, given the same rules, suitable similarities could ensue.
