A lot of modern groove based stuff like Dubstep DnB and so on are a total chore in Reaper unless you are happy to neverending resample in the audio domain, Reapers automation is super basic and only really designed for mixing.
So to do those styles you need to keep resampling snippets and using Reaper like Live, then you have to ask yourself "Why am i using Reaper like Live, just get Live, its better at this" hahahaha
Personally i havent composed a song in Reaper in a very long time, the whole "hmmm maybe i can make a macro to do this missing feature" is great when you are fiddling, but when you are composing, stopping and starting every five minutes because something is missing or just so archaic it kills your vibe (automation lol wtf reaper) is a real passion killer.
just use Reaper for misdown, its what its actually designed for
