Default Fading a VST

Is there a way to fade a track being run into a vst other than using a volume envelope? If I listen to the faded audio dry, the fading is correct but with the VST active, there is no fade. I must have something routed incorrectly because I think I remember being able to do this before.

Reaper's only way to control the volume of the track after the Track FX is with the Track Volume Envelope or the fader itself.

You haven't actually given anywhere near enough info for me to help you further. There are all kinds of ways to fade various things, and IDK which you're using. There are all kinds of VSTs out there, and IDK which one(s) you're using. All of this matters, so...

By chance is it a MIDI track that you are trying to fade?
