Default Item relative edge drag snaps with snap off?

I've just started having trouble with dragging item edges, they keep snapping either between the full length of the clip, or to some arbitrary point on the grid of some distance (from what I can tell) and i can only override this by holding shift, which is also default set to relative edge edit ignoring snap. Shouldn't the default of relative edge edit really not snap of snapping is disabled? Is there a way of having "ignore snap" happen is snapping is off?

It seems to happen with particularly small items?

I can only sort this by holding shift to bypass snap entirely, why when snap is off would it still snap at all?

It's a little difficult to see in your gif because sometimes the bottom item edge is covered by the tooltip but it looks like the snapping happens when you cross the item start point in the dragged item (the little triangles in the horizontal item edges).

Can this be the case ?

If so, snapping to this point happens here too even with snap disabled and can't indeed be turned off it seems (except with the 'relative edge edit ignoring snap' mouse modifier as you say).

Yeah, exactly! You can see the top of the clip isn't covered by the tooltip (sorry about that!) and it's definitely when it goes over the start point, expect for when holding down shift and hard-bypassing snap. Is this a bug or a feature that needs overriding somehow?

I usually only look at the bottom of the clip for this little triangle so I didn't notice at first, but you're right it can be seen clearly at the top of the clip, sorry too.

Hm...bug or missing feature (could be an additional tickbox in the snap settings for example) or intended behaviour (mostly I find it actually useful to have even when snap is disabled tbh) I'm not really sure so I don't have any suggestion what to do with this now.

Maybe I could setup the cycle editor to toggle snap between item relative edge snap and ignore snap? Would that work as well as holding shift?

Since there are actions for

Set default mouse modifier action for "Media item edge left drag" to "Move edge (relative edge edit)" (factory default)

and

Set default mouse modifier action for "Media item edge left drag" to "Move edge ignoring snap (relative edge edit)"

I'd think it should work setting up a cycle action with these, didn't test though.
